As with a gun being fired sideways, The bullet drops way faster than in normal shooting.
WHAT!? LOL

A gun fired sideways will have the bullet "drop faster" because the sights are sighted in with the gunvertical but on an angled upward plane. In other words if you fire it sideways the actual trajectory of the bullet is being compensated sideways in the direction of the cant and not upward. In reality the bullet isn't dropping faster it's just not sighted in on that plane. The ballistics are the same. A bullet doesn't suddenly take a nosedive and lose power ebcause you turned the gun over.

With a crossbow it's simply how the weapon is sighted in and shot. There is no additional drop because it's fired with the limbs in a horizontal position.
The weapon is sighted in with the bolt being cast on an upward plane relative to the sights exactly the same way a vertical bow is. Limb orientation has nothing to do with it.
If a vertical bow shoots the same length and weight arrow set up with the same fletching and shot at the same speed as a crossbow they will have identical downrange trajectories and ballistics.
Good post, Matt. BTW, I think reading your sig. and avatat, thatI met you at a show a couple years ago. LOL Can't be many Bowtech Reps/ staffers living in Dover ! It was the old Heritage Days show sponsored by Keystone country store. What a great show, and sadly history.[] Man,I miss that little show! Talk about gettingto rub shoulderswith some big time archers/ hunters. Ralph and Vicki Cianacarulo, Morret (of course), Drurys, Michael Waddell, all in one little tent event. Wonder why they dropped it? last one I know of was the one featuring the Josh Turner concert.

MANYSPURS,you're dead on that's why our beloved PGC would never go for it ! It just makes too much sense. Why else would we still be relegated to flintlocks for muzzleloading season ?

if crossbows kill more deer our population is down in the end they would have to cut back on doe tags
or none at all wouldnt that defeat the purpose of crossbows to generate more money ?
plus in the end if there is no deer or hardly any who is going to buy a license not a meat hunter
maybe some die hard trophy hunters
so would pgc cut their own nose off ?

I keep telling you guys Time to wise up And buy your own property and post the tar out of it, gate it and manage it your way. Thats what i did ,most of the public land mentality is gone. If you dont want to shoot does ,Dont. Do what you want. Let nobody hunt except yourself. get yourself 50 deer psm. The surrounding leachesget the scrap overflow deer. Sounds greedy, but so is the PGC and slob hunters. Time to protect our own butts. You have to learn to say NO. That was hard for me at first. But as soon as people found out I had a place they were your best friend all of a sudden. Sorry Go buy your own land friend.

Crossbows aren't going to kill any more deer that wouldn't already end up dead in gun season.

The fall woods however will be MUCH MUCH more crowded, be it with "Slobs" or good guys, they will become more crowded than they already are, and for me(and many others) will make the whole hunting experience less enjoyable.

"Crossbows aren't going to kill any more deer that wouldn't already end up dead in gun season. "

Actually they will. More opportunity = more killed. Not even debatable imho. Only thing debatable would be how much more would be killed during a season with crossbows compared to that same season if crossbows hadnt been legal.

Id say any is not good. Buck quality is already pathetic. We are told its because of so many hunters killing the bucks. So what do we do? Add to the kill.[:'(]

Cardeer, these days that about a mans only option. For many though, its not about "wising up" its about not having the expendable cash.

Wow - This post is on for not even 2 full days yet and has already taken up 5 pages. Way to go DougE.!! I don't care one way or another what type bow is used. Those of you familiar with the crossbow know all to well how much a boltdrops after 25yds.Personally, I would rather my compound over a crossbow. It is my opinion that my 65# compound can cast an arrow farther, with more accuracy and with more energy than a a 150# crossbow.
If I am wrong, please enlighten me.
