What a jackass. Does anybody want to tell him the story of when I found a huge 10 point alive with one antler tangled in a fence on the morning of last day of archery? How I tried to free the buck even though not a soul knew about it and I had a bow in my hand and a tag on my back? How I called Beth Fife and she came out. How we could not free the deer and had to put it down? How I sacrificed my tag so that the buck didn't go to the landfill? How my cherished buck hunting ended that day and all I got was a butcher bill?
I don't think old truth twister really understands or get's hunting and sportsmanship.
I remember your story, I have often wondered if you would have used that cherished buck tag on a little 5 pointer, or would you call a game warden and let him take care of the buck, I know what your answer will be but I still wonder.

I would never have tagged the deer in the fence. I enjoy hunting and only like the meat a little. Why would I end my season. To save a dieing deer from coyote food versus my freezer. No Way, Coyote's, buzzards, fox and crows have to eat too.

If you remember the story you should also remember that there was no mention of calling a WCO. It was the first day and it may have taken hours for a WCO to become available ,so I shot it and tagged it with my "cherished" buck tag as required.

Your post said it was in response to BB and that is the reason for my reply.

ORIGINAL: livbucks

I wanted to free the buck because I would rather tag him the right way. We could not free him without one of us getting hurt..he was THAT big. I asked Beth if he would go to a needy family and she said NO. His meat would be unfit to eat because he was overheated and adrenaline would have tainted the meat..he would go to the landfill. I could not live with that, so I tagged him and made use of him. Would I have done the same for a 5 point? You betcha. It wasn't about the rack. I have the rack but I didn't get him fair chase so it means squat. I didn't want to waste him. I took a chance on the meat and he tasted rather good. I ate him up.
You can call Beth and ask her. I'll give you her number. She said she never met a greater sportsman than the likes of me. Never. She's a great WCO BTW!
Well why didn't she treat it like a road kill, then you would have been able to keep your buck tag? Just don't make sense to me that you had to give up your tag.

I agree that Beth Fife has a very good reputation of being a very down to earth, fair, professional and sensible WCO.

Greg, if she had treated it like a roadkill she would have had to confiscate the rack. Maybe she was under the impression that you wanted the rack enough to tag the buck and she allowed that as the best option.
