Join your state bowhunting organization
I wrote this about the United Bowhunters of Pa. but it applies to every state. Membership numbers are a tool we need to protect bow seasons everywhere.
Bowhunters typically enjoy individual pursuits.
They are loners in both spirit and reason.
So we are easy targets for animal right’s groups
And politicians with other uses for our season.
Consider for a moment our desperate plight
It’s something worth saving I’m sure you agree.
That is why we must join and unite
And lend our support to this group called the UBP.
We are all just bowhunting volunteers
Pausing to help from our hectic day.
From across the state as your bowhunting peers
To insure they also hear what we have to say.
Most of us have little room on our plate
But we can accomplish much for almost free.
And we will lose if we just allow things to wait.
You’d see a lot done with your membership fee.
Alone we are all a very dim light.
But when in a collection that will bind
We will step out of the shadows
And together we will grow and shine.

RE: Join your state bowhunting organization
I agree, and a member of NY Bowhunters. I placed a post here several wks back, asking how many NYB members on this sight. Needless to say I didn' t get too many responses. In my latest NYB mag I read a part that is shocking, NY has in excess of 170,000 bowhunters. 2,000 belong to NYB. Thats pathetic. NYB is the only NY state archery organization I know of. They' ve done so much for our sport that few seem to realize. One that comes to mind is they pushed to allow doe permits to be used during southern tier archery season. NY Depart. Of Envir. Conservation(DEC) hadn' t previously considered that until NYB pushed for it. It allows bowhunters more time in the woods. They have a physically challenged program, hold archery youth camps every summer in each region of NY. Currently NYB is pushing to expand both Northern & Southern Tier archery seasons. 9/1-10/1 is there motto. Why more bowhunters are not willing to spend $15 a yr to join, and help an organization fight for their rights is beyond me!!!

Good point Mark and I can see where you are coming from. Doesn' t the UBP only have around 6000 members even though there are probably over a hundred thousand or more bowhunters?

RE: Join your state bowhunting organization
We were at 330,000 until the license fee increase for bowhunters went to $16.00. We dropped to 280,000 that year and are slowly clawing our way back to 300,000.
So yes, we have about 2% of the states bowhunters supporting an organization that fights to preserve something they apparantly seem to enjoy.
Apathy has a lot to do with it, we don' t really pay attention to a war until a bomb or two hits near us. Many say they have never heard of us. And many don' t want to part with that $20 as that is 30 pack they will never get to know.
There are many that attack bowhunting and few defenders, here is one that spends a lot of time in Harrisburg watching our backs and it is money very well spent.
You see the new dress shirts the UBP is selling? Looking good.
