As I suspected, still no credible proof of the alleged abuse of the junior hunter AR's. A couple of second hand stories that are nothing more than heresay and conjecture. Certainly not a good basis for demanding a law change that will penalize a segment of our law abiding hunters that we desperately need to encourgae for the future of our great sport.

What percentage of illegal activity do you believe the game commission finds and prosecutes? Like I said, naive.

That being saidlarger fines and prison terms would reduce some of it.

prove it's a bigger problem than any other poaching activity.
Penalizing law abiding hunters so that poachers have less opportunity is never the way to go. If you follow the mentality that kids AR should be eliminated because some adults may abuse it then here's some otherideas that make just as much sense.
Some hunters would shoot a deer if it comes by 5 minutes after quitting time so maybe we should require everyone to be out of the woods by quitting time.
We've all heard those early shots on opening day of gun season from those guys who catch a deer with their flashlight on the way in so maybe the law ought to prohibit hunters from entering the woods before starting time.
A squirrel or turkey hunter with a rifle could shoot a deer and then go get his bow and claim he shot it with archery equipment so maybe the law should not allow any overlap in seasons
The weekend before rifle deer season finds lots of hunters in the woods scouting and at the same time rifle fire can be heard all around. Most of it is probably guys sighting in but maybescouting ought to be outlawed because we all know that some early deer get taken that weekend
The odds of getting caught by a WCO while spotting with a gun in the car are pretty low somaybe we need to outlaw spotlighting altogether
Or how about reinstating the stupid old law that once required hunters to use up their venison before mid summer? Themnetality behind that one was that poaching picks up in the fall and anyone with deer meat before deer season could be busted for merely having it.
None of these makes any sense. It would impose great inconvenience on those willing to obey the law but the poachers will always find a way. They will either ignore the law flat out or they'll find some other way to abuse it. Punishing those that obey the law to make it a little harder for poachers who will find a way anyway is not the answer!

You have to visit the mountain of 4c just north of the homeland for the waves and waves of Amish and Mennonite farmers hunting for food. I have seen multiple groups of 20 or less drivers, somtime 5-10 women and kids not holding weapons driving and driving over and over until the deer are gone. The kids and women are there purely for tags. The carts loaded with deer are all you need to see. Farm carts pulled by bicyles and people just hauling them out.
The excessive tags on public land are just plain wrong. All you have to do is get out there and see what has happened.
As a kid - 30 years ago, I endured the inbalance in the herd and the doe season after 2 weeks of chasing them into hiding and I think I am a pretty darn dedicated hunter that lives and sleeps the sport. I didn't need the brown it goes down to keep me interested.
The youth and elderly tags were put in place to make sure the smaller bucks and more does get killed.

I am not sure it is poaching to carry a handful of purchased tags and kill every deer you see?
Very tough to follow every Father/Son?daughter group around the woods. I just witnessed an unusually high # of kids getting a lot of deer.
They haven't returned to my area WMU since. I am sure they know what now exists in the area.
