I live in Wyoming County and gun hunt in Wetzel County. I shot a 9 pointer in Wetzel last week that will score near 130. I shot a 10 point in Wyoming with the bow last day of the season last year that scored 135. Im pretty happy with things as they are. Only thing I would change is to adapt the earn a buck system. Gotta shoot a doe first...
I like the idea of self restraint..... which is what I practice...but what I dont like is being told that a now legal deer wouldnt be legal enough. If someone voluntarily wants to practice qdm fine....but dont try to cram it down the rest of our throats.

this is what i was looking for i am happy toread everyones ideas/opinions. ok... now some of the biggest problems we have is farmers that allow buck hunting, but DONT allow any doe hunting. i have seen heards of 40-60 deer where there is only a few spikes, or smaller type bucks. oh did i mention the average doe in these heardsis alittle bigger than a german shepard. i like what doe dumper had to say: "I like the idea of self restraint..... which is what I practice..." but the down fall to thatis if 1 out of 5 people practice that, then isthat technique affective though? now dont get me wrong i like watching little bucks under my treestand, but i find myself letting them walk to see if something bigger is gonna show, and more often than not, nothing does. i hope all you WV hunters had or are having great hunting season.

Having gone thru this myself in PA....be prepared for a BIG battle and argument for years to come should it go thru.
You WILL see better bucks. But some will still complain cause they don't and want to shoot that forky. (herd reduction was introduced as well as our antler restriction and that has caused the AR results not to be as clearly seen)
You WILL have people break the law and still shoot anything.
Good luck.

A states responsibility is to control deer numbers. Whether the male deer carry large antlers or small antlers means JACK in the scheme of things. These AR or QDM plans that are put into effect in some states are solely in response to the trophy hunters who complain about not seeing enough big bucks. They try to make them happy by implementing these plans. Otherwise these plans serve little to no purpose in the larger picture of controlling deer numbers.

I hunt 1300 acres in Jefferson Co. with approx. 20 hunters and we try to take mature bucks with a few exceptions and some of the guys hunt does in season. I see good bucks most years and let them go for next year, unfortunatelywe don't see them again. As soon as the deer leave our ground they are shot by other hunters or poachers out of season. ARs might help this situation some. But the state is so intent on making money that you now have to pay to take a doe, yet we are always told to take does to lower numbers. Shortly the state will charge us just to look a does. We used to be able to use unused gun tags to take deer in follow-up season, not any longer. Its about $$$'s not the deer.
