Default Western Maryland Bag Limit???

I normally hunt in the Frederick area (zone B), but this year I was looking at hunting public land in Alleghany Co (zone A). I was surprised to see the bag limit is one buck and one doe, with only one day of the season to bag the doe.

In zone B the bag limit is two bucks and ten does! Quite a difference. I'm not complaining, or making a commentary about it, since I have not been following deer population trends in zone A. I was just surprised at the difference. Has this been the bag limit in zone A in the past and I was just not aware of it?

Yeah the rules have always been like this since I can recall! I hunt zone A and the deer population is definantely not enough to handle 10 doe kills, have also hunted region B and dont see where there population is enough to handle that many kills!!! I am trying to figure out which season you are talking about taht you only have one day to kill a doe??

Even with the 10 doe limit....not sure who wants to kill 10 does anyway. I'll try to take the mandated two to add to the freezer and to make sure I get my second buck tag. But after that, the interest just isn't as intense. I will try from time to time to get a deer to donate to a processor who participates in hunters for the hungry.

Didn't region A extend farther east until just recently?

Page 30 of the Guide to Hunting and Trapping says that Dec 8 is the Antlered or Antlerless firearms day for Zone A. December 29 is the same thing for muzzleloader season. This is on DNR Public Lands. During ML season the anlerless season is Dec 27-29 on "All Other Lands". Take a look and let me know if I am not reading it correctly.

Even though theliberal bag limits have been in effect in Zone B for several years now, I still have yet to meet anyone who has shot their limit of does. I have killed as many as six, two for my family and the rest went to non-hunting friends who like venison. None went to waste. I would have no heartburn if the limit were reduced dramatically, say two or three for the year with all weapons combined. Unfortunately, the uncontrolled destruction of habitat here in Frederick County is crowding the deer onto smaller and smaller parcels and the landowners want them killed. The price of progress?

Steve F...... I went and looked at the rules and regs and see that the only day to shoot a doe is indeed on the last day of rifle season!! I myself dont pay much attention to gun season I am more a bowseason guy.

I am gonna have to ask a couple buddies what it has been like in the past, they may have just changed it. I have always thought it was the last two-three days?? I might be gettin it mixed up with muzz season??????
