RE: Possible Mt lion track
RSB,here is what i was told from a WCO when i reported my sighting,he said,SPROUL YOU DESCRIBED A YOUNG MOUNTAIN LION BUT I DONT BELIEVE THEY EXIST..i said,SIR COULD YOU MEET WITH ME AND MY FRIEND AT SITE,WE WILL WAIT HERE AND TAKE TRACKS AND ASSIST YOU,THIS WAS AT 3 PM IN AFTERNOON..
WCO,answer was,GROUND IS TOO HARD TO TAKE TRACKS... then he hung up....THAT IS TRUTH ... i could tell you what county that was in but i dont know if he is there yet and i dont go after a person with his name.. i will say it was not WCO from elk, cameron,,potter, clinton, centre, lycoming,so you are safe on that one,was not you....... its hard to convince me you folks have not seen a COUGAR,your in woods.... friends of mine that saw cougar 3 times on the beech creek rd between rt144 and beech creek? they drove to work on that dirt rd early each morning... they know what they saw... my question is to you, why do you always say it is most likely a RELEASED PET? do you have proof of that? how many people saw a COUGAR but cannot shoot it by law? you ask for proof ,let someone shoot one!!then you will have proof... PGC could do this, have cougar tested and release finding... THEN ,if it isRELEASED PET COUGAR,pgc would be shown as telling truth.... but why dont you folks do that?this would shut up ole sproul once and for all... if a cougar is shot and it is found to be a RELEASED PET not a wild breeding cougar, is that a violation of law for shooting a RELEASED PET as you folks say? that tail statement you made, oh my!!!i could get smarty pants with you but i will not but i hope everyone reads that statement on we are looking at bobcats butt and thinking we saw tail... i will ask you one question,DO YOU THINK OLE SPROUL SAW BOBCAT? yes,i saw a wiggly 3 ft bobcat inside leg twisting in wind behind that bobcat you claim!! |
RE: Possible Mt lion track
I can not speak for PA but once again the idea has surfaced here in Maine....Here is a photo that was in todays paper ,,,, The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife can't make the call!!!!
But did send some biologists out to check things out about a week later.. You can read about it here.. Sorry to bring this about but, I thought it was interesting anyways. http://www.bangordailynews.com/news/t/news.aspx?articleid=151710&zoneid=500 |
RE: Possible Mt lion track
phil, thanks for picture, without the tail,we cant tell..
to me, it looks like a BOBCAT and a big em .. the head i saw on my COUGAR was real small and huge shoulders and long tail.. to me this does not look like the cat i saw.. the ears dont look same but that big head on that picture is not what i saw on mine.. i saw COUGAR tail and all.... this may be one but without tail, ears and that square looking head, not round, i would say BOBCAT... cougar has head that is real small between shoulders, at least one i saw did..... |
RE: Possible Mt lion track
No you are right sproulman no one can tell for sure.... I did blow the picture up on my computer but it is to blurred to tell too. It does appear to have round ears on it and it is a big cat either way.. It did draw the attention of our wildlife officals as well who can not determine either way.. So without a clearer pic and a shot from the hind end as well who knows? But, one thing is for sure is, that it is big, andsomething that belongs to the cat family...

RE: Possible Mt lion track
again thanks for picture..i submitted one from local newspaper here in lock haven, pa...
the people that took it at night shot thing thought it looked like a cougar.. as we enlarged picture ,i felt it was a bobcat but we could not still get a good picture of tail,it only showed about 8 inchs or so of it... so,some made fun of ole sproul because i submitted a picture of possible cougar and that cat was full of muscles to in shoulder which was not like any of bobcats we have seen over years... if that cat had round ears and you enlarged it, i would say its a COUGAR.. every bobcat i saw trapped over 50 years ALL had pointed ears and were released.. |
RE: Possible Mt lion track
I didn't make fun of you Sproul. I was objective as Ienhanced the photo and I let the facts speak for themselves. As much as I wanted to prove you right, it was simply a bobcat in the end. I still have the picture in the envelope that you sent to me and I look at it from time to time. I'm glad that you concluded and freely admitted that it was a bobcat. I feel it shows you have credibility. Keep trying. Someday you will find your validation. It could happen any day.

RE: Possible Mt lion track
I would say just shoot one if you seen it. If I seen a ML while hunting,I am not taking a chance with him being the, ITis as much as scared of you as you are of IT. No way hozay. I am going to do a pre empitive strike on his a$$ to prevent that WMD from happening.

It could happen any day. i can see why most cant get picture, most likely they dont stop and look... boy, was i close to that COUGAR.. no doubt if anyone sees one ,you will know difference between bobcat and it... tail sticks right out, little head,go-tee,big shoulders and orangish color that looked like one of those orange monkeys running away.. he even screached at me, no bobcat ever did that to me in 50 years and no bobcat was that long, they are short.. that was 14 years ago... last year friends of mine were working at beech creek, pa..they took shortcut each day to work from rt144 to beech creek on beech creek rd.. they told me they saw cougar 3 TIMES on that dirt rd... i saw a wolf, not coyote on same rd,no coyote would be that big, i believe and it was rusty red color, all coyotes we shot or trapped never were this big or rusty red color..its nose was from edge of road to yellow lineon its tail.. i am carrying camera now but as usual, gas prices are keeping me home,i used to be in woods 4 times a week all year....now about 1 day in woods and 1 day bass fishing... |
RE: Possible Mt lion track
Im in Pike CO pa and a couple of months ago a Game warden came to speak at my fathers rotary meeting. He said that they know cougars are in pa but most likely they are released pets. About 6 or 7 years ago my dad and I were driving home and one crossed with about 3 little kits or whatever you call their young.

WMD= Wild Mountainlion Destruction :D what i cant understand is why no tracks are found in snow,at least to my knowledge locally.. only reason i can say is they are not here in winter, question is, where do they go? or could 1 or 2 cougars be moving constantly from state to state? some said range is 500 miles..i dont know.... i do know this almost all sighting are from summer to archery season, then they stop reporting.. most of sighting are in most wilderness areas we have but some are not.. in summer sighting are in the wilderness areas,in winter most are near homes in rural areas... so, cougars could be moving to food, if deer and game move. maybe they do also, i dont know.... |
