I don`t think I can limit it to 3 suggestions.....and I am NOT at all hateful of the PGC, just for the record.

1.SMALLER and More WMU`s.......micromanage the herd time.

2. Two week gun season.....BUCKS ONLY

3. Using the new micro managed WMU`s.....3 day doe season WELL BEFORE the rut.

4. Sunday hunting......no exceptions.

5. Archery season runs from October 1 through January 15, with no days excluded. There is no reason NOT to do this from a game management standpoint.

Also, like Rob/PA mentioned.....BUCK tag/DOE tag......it is past time to hold folks responsible for their actions.

Other states do it rather effectivly. Why can't Pennsylvania? Or is it because the agency doesn't want an accurate count???
Could be that they don't, but I don't think so. I bet alot of archery shops, sporting goods stores, ect. would even volunteer services. Would be worth looking into.

States that use check stations still calculate tehir harvests.I don't know why crazy horse wants to see them.We use check stations for our bears and he claims those numbers aren't accurate.

1. Much smaller WMU. Micro manage as BC stated

2.Incentives to open up private land to hunting, off the top of my head, a private land tag could be used to fund this program, you want to hunt private land that isnt yours, you need to by a special tag.

3. Male/female deer tags, you shoot a button buck it gets tagged as a male deer and your done hunting for male deer.

Ill add a 4th, even though the orginal poster only asked for 3.

4. Mandatory reporting, even if your not successful, you dont report, you dont geta hunting lic. the following year, Idaho does this, very effective.

1. Already posted many times but GET RID OF BONUS TAGS !! (1 buck 1 doe that's it)
2. Go back to three day doe seasons at the end of antlered buck season.
3. Make AR 3 points state wide. A lot of people don't like AR to begin with and if they made it 4 point state wide there would be an uproar. I think three points gives a buck at least one full season under his belt before he is fair game maybe even two.

comments: I understand the thought behind tagging button bucks with buck tags but I'd have a problem with that one. First, you'd have more dead BB's laying in the woods than you could shake a stick at because there are a lot of people who sure as heck wouldn't use their buck tag after walking up and seeing a 45 lb BB laying there. I also would be a little ticked. I mean, I can easily take a 150 yard shot at a doe with my .270 but couldn't see 1/2 " nubs at that distance. If I know it's a BB I let them walk but sometimes you honestly can't tell and using the only buck tag I get for an entire year is pretty harsh punishment. I think restricting the doe tags to 1 per person would take care of the BB killing issue.

So, if Pa had check stations folks wouldn't cooperate, How Pathetic. That's the same kind of mentality that doesn't turn in report cards.

Check stations do work, and in NJ they work in "Real Time." That's right your tag number is recorded and placed on the data base and the agency has a "Real Time" figure to work from.

Those slow moving, foolish Commissioners we have are going to make decisions on next years antlerless allocations next month and the full, final accounting of our (PA) deer kill won't be "CALCULATED" for several more months.

Now, that obviously makes sense to some, but to anyone with half a brain it's inadaquate information leading to a simpleton's decision on numbers for next year.

Check stations are stupid for to many reasons, but here are a few.

PA has deer seasons from October thru January.I am not going to figure out the total days but it is many!

Many bow hunters recover deer late into the night!

Early muzzle loader season for seniors & kids recover at dark or after.

What about heat ruining meat in these early season?

Then you have firearms season when hundreds of thousands of deer are shot in 12 days!

Its just plain stupid ! How many of these stations are we going to have ? 1 per WMU? 10 per WMU? How many men manning each station ?8 hrs per day? 16 Hrs per day? 24 hrs per day ?
What about weather ? Snow storms?
What does a man hunting with his sons do?? Leave the woods and drive across the county and check a deer? Or wait till the end of the day and check them all? How many hours do you get to check it in.

Once again its a stupid Idea that would cost a fortune and would not work! If you want to check your deer go to New Jersey! I will just mail the card!

Check stations are stupid and that's why many states are doing aways with them.I think it's pathetic that more than 60% of the hunters in this state are already too lazy to send in a self adressed postage paid report card.It doesn't get any easier than that so what would make anyone think that those same lazy and irresponsible guys would go out of their way to drive to a check station?Have you sent in your report cards for the past several seasons John?

Tell me John, will antlerless allocations be set next month or do you think they'll wait until April after the harvest estimates are in?

Here's an idea for better reporting from the state of Illinois. It's been in effect for two years and seems to be working very well. You tag your deer just like always but by 10PM on the day of the harvest (or recovery) you must call in to an automated system and get a confirmation number. Processors, taxidermists etc dont dare touch the deer without that confirmation number and your tag is invalid if it doesnt have that number on the next day.

I'm sure that it's not 100% but it works a whole lot better than our system.
