Thanks all, just wanted to let ya all know that sometimes "Blind Luck" has its day. The only thing I did here that resembled a true hunting experience was pick a nice perch for myself to sit out the morning (I am usually a walker)and exercise control once spotting the animal to get good shot placement. The rest of the hunting stratigies were out the window that morning. It in no way takes away from the smile on my face as I know that everything in life happens for a specific reason. I hunted hard all weekend up in Pulaski NY area in some of the most beautiful deer habitat I have ever seen, did not see one deer and little to no sign. We did find 2 dead doe with the backstraps removed and 1 buck with the head removed (is there a season for poachers?) To cut it short I did not burn my tag and all the other comedies led me to this spot for this harvest. Sometimes ya gotta wonder what the plan is. PS: the wife does not want anything dead on the wall staring at her, I volunteered to have it mounted with its eyes closed. Seriously though he is not a pretty deer (kinda like a camel face) and he is not as big as the pair of racks on the wall in the Dacks so I think I will do a Western style mount with the bleached scull to hang between the 10's

I too was in Sterling for the opener. Took a basket 6 a little before 7am. Stayed with my brother and father till about 11:30 without any more shooting opportunities. What a blustery morning, it was nice to see snow, though. That is a real beaut, nice rack, great deer...congrats. I live in Nanuet, there is a guy there who does the bleaching you are looking into. If you arent going to do it yourself, Scott's taxidermy (or Skulls, or something, sorry) will do it for about $75. I had one done and it came out nice.
Congrats again...he is a real nice deer...I will be heading out again this weekend with my Dad, keep a good thought for us...maybe some of your luck will rub off for my Dad...
