Default PGC License Sales Down

It appears that the "minority" of PA hunters has spoken. Would you consider this alarming?

I've had several coworkers tell me that if the license increase goes into effect next year that they won't be getting one.

I myself will not be getting a PA license either. I'll probably start hunting West Virginia againor Maryland.

As everyone has probably seen, the PGC has big problems and has no one to blame but themselves. Its a shame they can't even see it.

No other state has its hunters, hating their WCO's as much as Pennsylvania.

There are a lot of different ingredients contributing to this problem and as much as I hate to say it, the attitude expressed by the PGC in the USP case is deep in the core of our problems.

While I have regarded the USP as little more than a noisy nuisance for many years and while I despise the misguided lawsuit they have filed, The PGC's contention that a group of license buying sportsmen has no legal standing to challenge them demonstrates a degree of arrogance that is unsurpassed.

Make no mistake, I dont agreee with the basis of the USP's suit. I think more good is happening than bad with our evolving deer management program. But the declaration by the PGC that the people who fund them have no legal right to challenge them is appalling.

Besides ruining the deer herd a lot of the hunting population in PA is getting older. My dad is in his fifties and he's starting to slow down a little bit. The PGC should cater to older hunters and stop trying to screw them. Everywhere you turn there are more yellow gates restricting access. This makes it harder and harder for older hunters to have a good hunting experience. Who wants to sit next to the highway when they could have drove in a trial to hunt. I think a lot of guys will either stop hunting all together or just hunt somewhere else.

It's data for the month of July. When do the current licenses go on sale? July 1. Got a whole months worth of data there. Send it off to the legislators and proclaim the doom of the PGC already.

Try calling the PGC License Division at (717) 787-2804.

FWIW, last year at this time sales were down 11%, but they ended the year down only 6%.
This year they are down 40% fromlast year'salready down 11%.

If this trend continues, sales will be down even more than last year's dismal drop. Please keep in mind that, according to my American Hunter (March issue?), sales had stabilized in the country as a whole.

HR (hunter reduction) works!

Or they could go up, right? I think that using 1 month of data, especially the first month when most people aren't even thinking of getting a license is just another way to bend data to support an opinion. I would rather see what the #'s look like at the end of August....
