the "law" is that the tag must be filled out imediately after deer is down - that means written out as well as date cut out. The tag, however, does not need to be on the deer until itgets toyour camp or goes into your truck. this is directly from the 2005 reg guide.

I belive that you have to have the tag filled out when you relize the deer is dead in NY. You have to put the tag on the deer before you transpot it in or on any vehical.

here in WV you are supposed to tag it before you move it .even before field dressing it

i have only ever tagged one deer before in my life and then i didnt do it until it was loaded up on the truck

Before we can move a downed deer in Maryland it must have a tag attached and we also must fill out a harvest card that came with our license.
