Yeah you may have missed an ice age or 2... If you know anything about 3n you'd know that is is one of the most develored pieces of land in ny. Not to mention durring the rut funnels dont meanjack to a buck. They go where they want and thats when going in person to scout pays off. Not this "I'm lazy reading a map bull." Scouting a map is to narrow down your time in the field not to get rid of it. You really don't know what your talking about.

I NOTICED YOU THINK EVERYONE FROM LONG ISLAND ARE BAD HUNTERS.IVE BEEN HUNTING IN DUTCHESS COUNTY FOR OVER 20 YEARS.I SAW A LOT OF YOU WOOD CHUCKS EMPTY YOUR SHOT GUNS ON A GROUP OF DEER AND NOT HIT ONE.ALSO KNOW FOR A FACT THAT MOST OF YOU HOW LIVE THERE DONT BOTHER TO GET LICENSES,OR IF YOU DO GET THEM SHOOT AS MANY DEER AS YOU WANT AND DONT REGISTER ONE.ANOTHER THING IS YOU GUYS WILL SHOOT ANYTHING THAT MOVES.PORR DEER DONT EVEN GET A CHANCE TO GROW UP TO GET A RACK,YOU SHOT THEM WITH THE SPOTS STILL ON THEM.ONE LAST THING A LOT OF THE LAND IN THAT AREA IS OWNED BY A LOT OF LONG ISLAND PEOPLE,AND ALSO CITY PEOPLE AS YOU CALL THEM.BAD HUNTERS ARE BAD HUNTERS AND SHOULDNT MATTER WHERE THY COME FROM,WE ARE ALSO VERY NICE PEOPLE IF YOU WANT TO FIND OUT.AND BY THE WAY KNOW A LOT OF REALLY NICE PEOPLE FROM DUTCHESS AND PUTNAM.

In fact you are correct LI hunters dont belong in 3n but just because the land is being quickly developed doesn't mean there still arn't lots of great hunting spots. Building arround an area forces deer to do many things that a map alone will not show you. And if anything there is absolutly no way that the rut is over the first week of shotgun season. If you think that you should stop hunting... Are you even from 3n??

Here is my exact statement...
you should know that the rut is basically over by the first week of shotgun season. So he would be unlikely to find heavy rutting activity in the first place.

The first week of shotgun season this year runs from Nov 19-26. You are saying that you are expecting to see heavy rutting activity after Nov 27?

Here are the facts as stated by noted deer experts Charles Alsheimer, Dick Bernier and Wayne Laroche.

The rut generally last from 12-14 days in that area and is usually centered around November 12-15, or as some people believe around the second full moon after the fall equinox. This year that day is Nov 16. That indicates that 70-80% of all does will likely be bred between Nov 9th and the Nov 23rd at the latest.

That means that the peak of the rut will likely be over by the first week of shotgun season.A hunter will in fact bevery unlikely to see heavy rutting activity after the that time.

I am surprised that you would believe otherwise...when do you think the peak of the rut occurs?

Another supporting articleconcerning the rut this time from Deerhunting.net

(In Ohio)Breeding rapidly increases the first 10 to 12 days of November then decreases quickly after the peak which which is between the 10th to the 13th of Nov. each year.
These dates also probably apply to states surrounding Ohio,(including NY)and other states as well.

jcc,
Your kidding me! Is this where you get your info on rutting activity - web sites. Do YOU actually hunt?

If you did hunt you might know that in FACT the rut may carry over into December and Jan depending on deer density and buck/doe ratios in any given area.

Your confrontational argumentitive posts are starting to annoy me and everyone else[:'(]

AJ,

PM SENT...

You know we are not talking about "any given area" and we are not discussing "may carry over" we are talking about a specific wildlife management unit in a specific state, and we are talking about "heavy rutting activity"

"heavy rutting activity" as you know is the time period in which the majority (60-80%),of deer are engagingin breeding activities.

.....
I have no further interest in carrying on this conversation, however if you do I would like to know when you believe heavy rutting activity occurs in Putnum county NY.
