Hey, just because you junt private land dosen't mean you don't care about this topic, your lowly state land users because you wish to be, go out and ask permission like the rest of us, don't knock someone for going the extra mile to gain private land. Instead of sitting around the TV doing nothing, get out and ask, worst thing you will hear is no. I have never hunted state land, I always did my homework before season, thus it is a bit safer where I hunt and the quality of deer is better. Maybe if hunting was more of a priority than just something you do on the weekend or once in a while, their wouldn't be a problem. Go out and get it, it's the only way. Never take no for an answer, keep trying until you get it. Also don't complain that your only option is state land, that's a excuse for lack of homework. CITY SLICKERS, not intended for those hunting brothers who live in the city that do there homework, and spend the time to gain access to private land. They did it why can't you....... I'm outta here , this thread has become a private arguement between a few people, hope the moderator get's rid of it. That's my opinion on this take it or leave it. People got to grow up!!!

Im all grown up my man. I Bowhunt private land all year long. I have had zero luck finding some good shotgun land for the gun season. I can say for certain its not from lack of trying. I hunt teh same state land every year and have done so for 8 seasons. I started hunting there and I will continue to hunt there. I Just bought a piece of land right next to it in hopes of creating a relationship with some local land owners. I hunt Italy hill State land. Im proud of it. I pay taxes for the land and I will use it to its fullest. This is a normal debate and looking at your post count i would expect a little thicker skin. Dont bow out, lets continue the conversation in a more neighborly manner. My name is scott and if you are ever in the Italy Hill area during shotgun season look for me ill be the one dressed like a pumpkin.

Don't worry, I haven't gone any where. A wise man once told me that if you can't find a spot to gun hunt, take your gun to your bowhunting spot and you will see deer, you did with your bow right? As for your land you should be proud of it, you earned the money to buy it. Go after the landowner on the next property and try to develop a management program with him it will improve your deer population and produce more mature bucks. It worked for me and many others. You probably won't see me because I'll be wearing camo all season, just kidding.

Hey everyone while this is my 1st post i have been following the many responces on this issue and all i can say WOW there are many different feeling on this rifle matter. I did not even think it would be this huge. I am a landowner in Catt. county and i am for the use of rifle and i feel that we here in NY are some of the safest hunters in the USA. With that said tehre is always going to be them very few that can make good things go bad overnight. I just think if we all pay attention to every detail while hunting this rifle thing will go over very smooth. I'm sad to see the debate. In a few years much of it will be forgotten.

I remember when it was illegal in NY to hunt with a pistol chambered for anything less than .32 caliber. The Thompson .270, 308. etc were all illegal - not because they went too far but becuase they were less than .32. Heck - it was legal to hunt with a .32 ACP - though it could hardly knock down a house cat!

Any ways - they finally fixed the law - and after a couple years - everyone forgot about the debate.

Remember when we couldn't hunt Sundays - not that long ago - WHAT A DEBATE that was - now - Heh - what was the argument??

Hunters should stick together - otherwise you only burn bridges.

Buckdropper - Small world. I drive right by your place on the way to my friend's huntin' camp. He has a place in Lyndon off Snyder Rd. Boy, Case Lake is beautiful.

Were you successful in getting a DMU tag this season? I was one of only 3 guys in our camp that got one. We have a total of 9 guys in our camp. Best of luck this season.

Hot off the line , this bill will become law. I spoke to my councilman and he said the Governor will sign it as is he feels the bill is just and should not be vetoed because some in one county dont like it.Tioga county is still in the bill so I am getting the 30-06 tuned up.

The bill was delivered to Gov. George Pataki, I believe,recently.

No action as of yet...but the time clock is on...
