BuckMagnet, well stated.
Cardeer, thanks for the answers. and for yours, I agree, I have never seen a starving deer in Pa, I've never hunted out of state so I can't answer the first, and for the last, i do feed the deer in my back yard just to keep them around and take some pictures, not because they need it.
I think the biggest problem with this whole plan is how they have sold it. They have tried all kinds of excuses, the starving deer, the bigger bucks when in reality it is just as BM said, reduce the population because there is not enough land to hold all the animals. However, again it was another poor job in executing this plan. This state is too big to manage all the same way. I think this is just a start and will eventually be broken into smaller units.
I don't ever think they will have issues here of this becoming a lease only state as the hunters here will never put up with it.
Thanks for everyone in this post for adding some intelligent comments unlike some of the other posts on the board.

I have a couple of questions for all you Alt supporters.First off how many of you live in the Southwest part of the state? Secondly do you really believe the man when he said this based on science? How can you justify something when the studies arent done to either back up the statements he makes or doesnt back them up? Show me the hard proof that this will do what he THINKS it will do and then I might change my mind.I know where I hunt in Lycoming Co. that the herd is way down from what it used to be. I belong to a camp above Ralston on RT.14 and we didnt kill a deer there last year. We voted not to take does due to the fact that they arent there. We have 16 members and we hunt hard mostly drives and didnt see that many deer. I personally saw 4 doe all week. So how do you justify herd reduction in this area?
There is a over population in some areas of the state of that I am sure but to just blindly do herd reduction in the whole state is not right. As for Ar it still isnt proven to do what it is said to do. How many would be in support of it if Alt hadnt used the anlers in his program and just tried to explain it without them?

I live in the South Western Part of the state, Indiana County. Lots of farm land, and even more deer. Sure, we got big bucks comming out the wahzoo here, but, Alt's plans will be an improvement TO THE OVERALL HERD!!!!!!!!
Why do I believe Alt's plans will work? I was a complete non-believer, heck, I got into some HEATED debates where I fought against all the Alt fans, but, when I thought about it, and spent hours figuring it out, I found some interesting facts to show that this will work. When I have some more time, I will discuss them again. But, I have to run.

BM,
I am impressed by your change in attitude and manner of presenting yourself on here.
Cardeer,
I am 28 live in SW Pa and support Alt. I have never paid to hunt or went out of state. I don't think there is any remote possibility of PA becoming an attraction like Iowa or texas etc. I have hunted diverse areas of this state, including the central mountains, pittburgh suburbs and western PA farmland, and have found large bucks in all areas. Not many, but they are there. I feel bad that you are in a crummy situation/area, but from what I've seen the rest of the state could use some thinning of the herd.
Some things are true whether you believe them or not.

Is it possible that the great numbers of deer that many hunters used to see have moved on to different areas that offer more browse and food sources? Maybe the fact that there were so many deer in years past the land can't sustain such a large herd because of over population and over browsing. And if we don't thin out the herd then this will happen in the new area that the deer have moved to also. And the process continues to repeat itself. I do think that smaller DMU's will help to solve this problem, but 1st the herd has to be cut before all the huntable land is over browsed.
