Hey Bigbuck00,
It started out slow for me also, but with the corn about gone it has really got good, the six pointer i told you about, and the doe's seem to be moving more also, Have'nt walked around much in my area, so iam not sure about rubs and scrapes. Been thinking about laying down a drag rag with doe urine or buck.

RE: Indiana Report

Same in Vigo/Sullivan, no scrapes, few rubs. I think that it is still to warm for the bucks to even begin to think about rutting. If the temp drops into to 40's to 50's during the day I expect everthing to pick up. As for now I am waiting for firearms to open up.

I hunt in Adams County..and it's been slow up here. With the 60/70 degree days the last couple weeks..it's killed the movement. I've seen many rubs...but only 1 scrape as of this morning.

Yesterday, Saturday Oct 30th, my buddy and I went up to Stueben, Dekalb, and a few other counties looking for some new hunting land. We got turned down everywhere we went..mostly b/c they had too many hunters the way it was. I thought about leasing some land up there this past spring...but now I'm kicking myself for turning it down. [:@]

Well..my luck has really changed!

My buddy and I found a great piece of land for lease up in LaGrange Co..boardering Stueben. The land is great...nested between a lake and a large woods. The owners have taken big bucks off this property lately..and we saw some great evidence of many deer! I'm giddy like a child thinking about this land...it makes the flat farm land of Adams Co. look like junk! It's 75 acres, mostly rolling hills..but enough trees/woods/fence lines to put up stands and a few blinds. Stands will be up Friday, I'll be hunting there Saturday. GOD I can't wait.

BTW..the price is $1,000 total. The owners are some of the nicest people I've ever met. A DNR officer gave us a heads up on the lease (the add was in the Ft. Wayne paper)...I can't wait to get out there and actually see something. I'm done with Adams Co. and the 460 deer taken here per year...total waste of time.

The deer were really moving today in LaGrange Co. We saw them early in the morning today...and late in the afternoon. Bucks scraping and rubbing everywhere...and really starting to chase does. My buddy could have shot a buck this morning..but his safety harness was screwed up...he wasn't able to stand up to pull his bow back. [>:]

I live in poland indiana. It is in clay county. I have seen a few does and a couple of bucks. One was a nice 10 pointer. I have seen a few scrapes, but no rubs. Almost all the corn is out. hopefully it will cool down some before firearms season gets here. This will be the first season in a long time that all the corn is out. Most people planted beans this year!:DGood Luck and Happy Hunting! "Saftey First"

The bucks up in LaGrange were pushing does HARD today..even with shots going off every 30 seconds! I saw about 25 deer total...but the only clear shots to them were when they were standing on someone else's property. [:@]

Hunted private land Sat down by Vigo/Sullivan county line. Seen 5 deer, 1 buck and 4 does. I took the buck home either a 8 or 11 point depending upon how you count the stickers on the brow tines. Most important part is that it weighed in at 170 lbs at the processors. My buddy got a 137 lb doe. same day same place so I quess you could say I seen 5 does, 4 alive and one dead. Ha Ha.
Oh yeah and one unhappy dnr.

Both my 11 year old Grandsons harvested their first deer opening weekend. One shot an 8pt. perfect lung shot with Gramps right beside him in the stand and the other a big doe also lunged. gotta get these kids interested in hunting with all the BS around for them to get into!!!1

Yes, it is a party like atmosphere down there all weekend. People camping all along the road with fires burning. YOu hear all those shots and you can help but think there are no big ones left but they make it.

RE: Indiana Report

Hi, I am new to the forum, up here in Fort Wayne, but I hunt in Noble County. I harvested my second deer (only my 2nd year hunting), on Saturday, opening day, with a muzzleloader. It was a decent sized 7 point, not real big in body mass, only about 140 pounds or so, but it was an awesome experience.

My boyfriend got me into hunting last year and I harvested my first deer, a buck with one measly point, lol, on second day of shotgun season last year... it took me three shots last year with a Remington 870 combo express magnum... I missed him with my first two shots as he was standing behind a tree and obviously because of inexperience, but I got him with my third shot as he ran straight under my stand, shot him right in the throat. He was a big bodied one, about 180 pounds or so, but he had apparently done something to his rack while it was in velvet because all he had was one point... looks like he broke them off right at the base of his rack. I was happy with him though. :)

This year, we saw three bucks opening day, one about 150 yards out, just a spikehorn, the next was a monster, but he went into the tall weeds and came out only for a minute or so at the edge of the woods about 120 yards out, I had no shot and I wouldn't have been comfortable with my accuracy at that range anyway. We had a guy hunting about 600 yards out from us, he shot early, about 7:30 or so, three shots, but he apparently missed all three, or had a bad shot, because he got down from his stand and was tracking for about an hour and a half, climbed back up in his stand and waited until about 9 or so when his two buddies came from their stands. We were going to get out at 9:30 or so, but we decided to stay because they were down and walking all over the place looking for his deer, so we figured he'd be kicking 'em up all over. Sure enough, about 10, my buck was walking right down the ditch line about 40 yards from me, I got comfortable and WHAMO! I got him, perfect shot placement, just obliterated his lungs, he ran about 30 yards and dropped. I was so excited. Shane was with me, as we bought a buddy stand a couple of weeks ago. It was awesome! We went back out on Saturday night, he had a doe tag to fill... and I wanted to sit with him, we saw no bucks, but 13 does, just none of them within range.

We went back out again Sunday morning, Shane got his doe, we saw 18 does Sunday morning, and of course, I still had a doe tag to fill, so it was back out again Sunday evening, didn't get a shot, I had a shot at one doe, about 80 yds out, just didn't have a good angle, so I let her go. All in all Sunday, we saw 33 does!!! We have a good spot, but I don't think the bucks around here are ruttin' yet because they sure are scarce, and they are usually crawling all over us in that area!

Anyway, I guess after all that I should introduce myself, I am Stephanie, 2nd year hunter, 24 years old, I look forward to reading everyone's stories. :)

Oh, and as for the number of shots we heard, we didn't hear NEARLY as many as we did opening day last year, and the weather was so much better than it was last year, last year it was rainy and drizzly and about 40 degrees, this year we had clear skies and mid 30's, perfect weather for opening day, I was surprised at the small number of shots we heard... And Noble County is what, the second best county for number of deer harvested in a season? Hmmm... maybe they were all on our land! Ha ha!

I got a big doe this morning..on the same property I got the buck saturday. Only difference was I was in a different stand 200 yards across a wheat field. I saw 2 doe running early..around 700am..I could have taken a shot when they stopped..but I let them go. An hour later..I'm looking behind me...and when I turn around and face forward...a train of 7-9 does come out of a swamp..heading right towards me! They saw me grab my gun...but weren't scared. They just changed directions..heading to my left. I made a bleat sound with my mouth..locked the train up..and dropped the big doe!

I have pics..but don't know how to upload them.
