One was hit my a car in Northern Illinois at a state park a few years back. One year when I would pheasant hunt at the park they would ask for donations to mount it. From what they state park was saying it sounded like a young male. I would think that they are migrating south to establish new territories. While I don't doubt most of the ones we have talked about are wolves I'm sure many of these sightings by non-outdoorsman are just large coyotes.

Worked at the power house in Lansing, Iowa in fall of 2009. Did alot of scouting and talking to locals. Farmer I talked to has been complaining about not one but two wolves bothering his cattle. On Wisconsin side, locals i talked to also pissed about wolves in the area. And heck that is only 45 minutes South of La Crosse.

I look at it this way better they are moving South, the more people pissed about wolves the better. Majority then rules right?

Wolves will roam up to 150+ miles a week looking for food. They usually don't stay in one particular area that long - unless there's an endless food supply there.
