OHIO- Youth Gun Season
OHIO' S FIRST-EVER YOUTH DEER-GUN SEASON SET FOR NOVEMBER 22-23, 2003
Unique opportunity for young hunters to experience a fall outdoor tradition.
OHIO Hunters age 17 and younger can put their skills and training to the test during Ohio' s first-ever youth deer-gun hunting season on Saturday and Sunday, November 22-23. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife encourages young hunters and their families to take advantage of this new opportunity.
" The Division of Wildlife has been a leader in providing youth hunting opportunities in Ohio, having already established special ' youth-only days' for upland game, wild turkey, and waterfowl hunters," said Steven A. Gray, chief of the ODNR Division of Wildlife. " We know the future of wildlife conservation in the state rests with our young hunters."
The youth deer-gun season is open statewide on both private and public land. Hunters may take one deer of either sex during this season, in accordance with existing bag and deer-zone limits. Plugged shotguns, muzzleloaders, handguns and bows are legal. All participants must wear hunter orange, possess a valid Ohio hunting license and special deer permit, and be accompanied by a non-hunting adult.
All other regularly scheduled hunting seasons will continue. However, other hunters, including deer-archery hunters, are required to wear hunter orange during this period.
This year, Ohio' s regular deer-gun season runs December 1-7. Details regarding Ohio' s various hunting seasons, including those exclusively for young hunters, can be found in the Ohio 2003-2004 Hunting And Trapping Regulations or by visiting ohiodnr.com on the Internet.
