Indiana Hunters

It's almost that time of the year again, figured I'd start one of these threads. Usually, and I'm proud of this, the Indiana thread gets as much or more reports than nearly any other state.

This year I'll be hunting with my father in-law, brother in-law, and 1 other guy on a large farm in Noble County. We've had some really nice bucks on trail cameras the past few weeks.

Just got a new Z7 a couple weeks ago...I can't wait to get in a tree stand.

Water Swatter 09-19-2010 01:30 PM

I will be heading back from Colorado to hunt with my Dad in Fulton county first week of firearm season. I am just getting the Hastings barrel back on the 1100 and trying some of the new slugs from Remington and federal.

moonedzx9 09-19-2010 04:37 PM

I'll be hunting in Madison County and Crawford County. Good luck everyone!!

Parrot Head 09-20-2010 07:24 AM

I am hunting in Jefferson/Switzerland on weekends. During the week Jackson/Jennings Co. I am going to try and beat my 625 hours I put in the woods last year and this is the 12th year in a row I have gone and only missed on day. So I will hunt everyday.

I have been waiting for this thread to start back up! I'll be hunting some small places in delaware county. Might try some public places this year. Scoping up the 20 gauge for youth season this weekend:fighting0007:Can't wait to get on stand, and man, do i wish it would stay chilly like it was there for awhile

SJAdventures 09-20-2010 01:41 PM

I about bought a Reezen last year, but I'm glad I held off for the Z7. I'm in love with it.

Hoosier_Slayer 09-20-2010 05:16 PM

I'll be hunting in Harrison County. Had a successful year last year and got several good deer on camera this year so far, so I'm super pumped that season is almost here!!!! Good Luck to everyone!

sprintflyer 09-21-2010 11:02 PM

I live in Virginia but have one sister in Anderson and one in Garret. I've never hunted in Indiana and they don't hunt. Where should I go? Any public land that may be good?

indiana/arrower 09-22-2010 06:33 AM

im right around anderson, the problem is not much public land close, and only small ones, but up around the resevoirs is not too far

Pat Curtis 09-22-2010 10:14 AM

If your sister has some land around Garrett..or knows someone...that's a good area of the state. There is some public land..but would be a little drive from there.

pujhutt50 09-22-2010 02:49 PM

My uncle has 60 acres down in Owen County we have all ready to go. Looking to do a lot of bow hunting this year. I have a Bear Whitetail Legend, 31", 65#, Rage 3 Blade Broadheads. I'm ready to get me a nice buck.

I go to school at Purdue, I was wondering what public areas there are to hunt near here?

rraymond 09-22-2010 08:47 PM

Pat Curtis 09-23-2010 04:42 PM

Going to check the trail cams tomorrow or Saturday. For several weeks in a row we've had a big 10pt wondering around. Hope to see him again next Friday.

Youth Weekend !!

Are any of you taking kids out this weekend for the youth season? It's supposed to cool off tomrorow, that might help some. Around here alot of the crops are coming off FAST.

My son & I are going sunday, we can't wait!
:fighting0007:

indiana/arrower 09-24-2010 03:58 PM

indiana/arrower 09-24-2010 04:06 PM

Pat Curtis 09-24-2010 08:19 PM

Damn trail camera's. I think the flash went out on one of them. Time for a new one!

BTW, saw dozens of new rubs today. 1 more week!

indiana/arrower 09-25-2010 07:20 AM

Glad to hear there are rubs around pat, we saw a six point this morning and tons of coons runnin around fighting each other haha

Pat Curtis 09-25-2010 07:28 PM

A buddy from Ohio shot a doe today with his crossbow, but hasn't found her yet. Now I have to listen to the guys from Ohio at work all week talk about going hunting after they get off....when I have to wait until Friday. Ugh...

Roger46982 09-26-2010 04:40 AM

Looking forward to my 45th bow season in kosiusko county, damn time goes too fast!!

indiana/arrower 09-26-2010 10:40 AM

went out last night with some buddies who brought a guy who bleated no kidding every couple minutes. Two does about walked into my shooting lane till he thought he had to bleat and scared them off. He even tried blaming me for spooking them when i was 50 yds down wind in a stand. The worst part was they all hopped out of their stands 1/2 before dark. It seemed like i was the only one who knew what i was doin

Pat Curtis 09-26-2010 04:53 PM

I don't know if I would be hunting with those guys ever again....lol

monster10rackstack 09-26-2010 08:15 PM

Same here......Splinter Ridge. Except, I will not come near 625 hours.

Parrot Head 09-27-2010 02:25 PM

How is the hunting in there now days Primitive Weapon. I have not been in there for 3-4 years. Last year I hunted it, I saw some deer but not like when it first opened of course. I picked up another farm to hunt down there last year so I dont go there The farmers I hunt on want as many does killed as I can legally take.

812deerhunter 09-28-2010 09:12 AM

i hunt harrison county. just got a stand up over looking a 2 acre field with a pond on the other side. Also going to be taking my wolf out for its first season

Like you said, it's not as good as it use to be. I didn't get any deer at SR last year but also didn't spend as much time there as years past.

I am a doe population reduction specialist. If you need some help thinning the doe's on that farm, let me know. I have no problem taking doe's to fill the freezer. Especially in todays economy.

Turkey Goddess 09-29-2010 04:53 PM

Gibson County here! :) Not gonna make it out for bow season - but can't wait for shotgun to open up!!!!!

Good luck!!!

Kim :)

Parrot Head 09-30-2010 03:05 AM

You ever hunt close to the sign in station? I use to kill a lot of deer very, very close to there.

indiana/arrower 10-01-2010 09:26 AM

any luck this morning? a buddies dad got a decent nine point. Im goin out in my new summit viper after school

Pat Curtis 10-03-2010 05:18 AM

My buddy shot a big 10pt Friday evening, but with the rain all night it killed the blood trail when we went out looking Saturday. Today a friend and his dog are going out looking for him. Ugh.

I about shot a big 8pt right at the same time by buddy shot the 10pt. It was just too dark by the time the 8pt came to me.

Saw a bunch of does this weekend. Several appeared to by pushing their fawns away. The does would run at them and push them off....then stand on their hind legs and swat at them with their front legs. It was pretty wild to see.

Parrot Head 10-04-2010 04:45 AM

Saw 56 over three days of hunting. The north wind kills me. I did kill one doe Sat evening. Hopen for a better weekend down there next week.

Brent B 10-04-2010 06:06 AM

I hunt in Randolph county. Saw ten over the weekend jus havent got close enough yet. I'm tryin to stay out of some of my good spots for later in the season but I did see one buck out in a field after dark so the bucks seem to be somewhat active in this cooler weather. I hope it keeps it up and we may see a lot early on in the season. I have found a few rubs probably from some younger bucks but a good sign. We've got all of our corn shelled so should be seein a lot of deer this year. A lot better than last year it was warm and we were shelling into november so the deer were layin in the corn quite a bit. Gonna be a good year good luck:s4:

lovethebigguns 10-04-2010 09:15 AM

I hunt in Wabash County. I got a nice doe Friday morning and I'm looking for Daddy to come by anytime!

Good luck Hoosier Hunters!!
