If anyone wants a good spot to discuss Indiana hunting give Antlertalk.com a try there are several Indiana sites but this is by far my favorite.

Shot a small doe Saturday morning. Saw a bunch of deer movement this weekend very early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Now I'm just buck hunting.
|
Took out doe number 2 Sat morning. It was slow. I saw 42 for the whole week end.
|
Hopefully this weekend I'll get some time to get out and hunt. The time for the activity to increase is soon approaching..

My uncle has 60 acres down in Owen County we have all ready to go. Looking to do a lot of bow hunting this year. I have a Bear Whitetail Legend, 31", 65#, Rage 3 Blade Broadheads. I'm ready to get me a nice buck.
I go to school at Purdue, I was wondering what public areas there are to hunt near here? |
Going to be hunting Cass County again this year. Have not been out yet, don't know that i'm going to have much time to bowhunt this year as we have a family trip planned in Gatlinburg over fall break which is usually when i start hitting it hard. My wife and sisternlaw put this together and i just found out about a month ago, i told my wife she should know better but i will let it slide this time lol. I will get to hunt a few days in early Nov though and then most of gun season. I also was drawn for a late gun hunt at Tippy River state park this year. Never done one of these, but figured id try it. I was hoping for an early hunt at Prophetstown, but no luck.

Southern IN. here, Floyd/Clark county area.
Went out this morning, had good deer movement. Have my sites set on a buck we call Shactus, mainframe 10 with kickers off every point. Neighbor has a trailcam pics of him in his front yard, cam was set up watching a persimmon tree. I'm guessing 170+ inches, I'll try and get pics up of him. |
Here is my 2010 Indiana bow Buck. Taken Saturday morning. His second beam is 17-2/8" long with a 18-2/8" spread. I haven't scored him yet but will tonight. I shot him at 15yds. Funny thing is he walked 5yds past my wifes stand. She wasn't there!

Me too. Wow... |
Went out on Friday morning, walked 2 different properties, not a scrape 1 open.
Went out this morning, no less that 12 scrapes have been opened, even had a 6 pointer bust a doe group in front of me, he was grunting so loud it sounded fake. |
Those are some huge bucks lol. I got this 9 pointer friday night in randolph county. Been seein a ton of buck son here lately... should be seein a lot more in the coming weeks when we get rid of this full moon.

I'm in shock. I called the friend of the family this morning where i have hunted for 10 years and he told me he is allowing no hunting this season. I have no place to deer hunt. I managed to wiggle out of the family trip to Gatlinburg to go hunting and now i find out my spot of over 10 years if off limits. Unbelievable. His reasoning was because he had too many people in there last year. Didn't make any sense to me as he's the one who gave them all permission in the first place.

im sorry to hear that big buck, many people around here are weird about it also

I don't really have any promising connections. There is an outfitter up here that owns 14,000 acres that offers memberships to hunt whenever you want, at this point i may be forced into something like that just to get through this season until i find something else. I figure this late in the game, i'm probably going to have to spend money to hunt, be it on a lease or otherwise. I may try knocking on doors but i'm not holding out much hope that it will get me anywhere. That is a tough sell to begin with and usually the ones who tell ya yes are the ones who told the entire county yes as well. |
saw the same 6 or 8 point, and a doe last night, while my buddy 50 yds away saw a doe and two yearlings. he shot the doe, im kinda glad he did because her leg was all infected and torn up either from barb wire or a coyote. when we got down, her yearling kept blowing over where we found her

You don't have any state land in your area? |
It almost sounds like there was a bunch of money involved for him to that to a close friend.

You don't have any state land in your area? I did luck out though and get a place to hunt today. My wife is an OB Nurse and got me permission at one of the doctors house. He lives just outside city limits on a private road, he is the very last house on the road and lives in a woods that stretches almost a mile and a half long and has a huge lake about 300 yards or so to his east. He only lets one person hunt and nobody had asked this year so it is me by myself in here. I'm not sure how much he owns yet but am going over there on Monday to talk to him and take a look. Looks nice from google earth though. Says he has deer coming into his yard and eating his plants. |
Sorry to hear about your luck bigbuck. Hopefully something will work out for you. Almost one week to go until shotgun opener and I can't wait. I am hunting on my parent's property in Monroe county. This year my dad and I have decided that if a deer that is not a young buck presents a shot it is going down. We have had too many does in our area lately. I think it is the time to take care of that. We have had two nice 9 points on our trail cameras but you just never know what will show up once the rut kicks in. It looks like we will have some nice weather for opening weekend. Not too cold and not too hot. Good luck to everyone!

I ended up securing a 2nd place to hunt this weekend. A good friend that works with my wife said her dad owned about 30 acres but he doesn't hunt there as his family has some prime hunting ground in another location. I went out there yesterday to check it out and he had some real hogs mounted on his wall. Anyways it's not a bad area, has a creek that runs around the perimeter of the woods, and the neighboring properties are very thick and only hunted by 1 person on each property. The landowner has bowhunted back there a few times during the week after work and has seen 6 different bucks. I can see why he would hold out though after seeing what he has shot at his other ground. I saw at least 25 scrapes and a lot of good trails. He had a stand already up and told me i could use it and i put up one of my own as well. Been shooting the gun the last 2 days, it's ready to go.

Things busted loose in the woods this morning, counted no less than 6 bucks running does this morning.

That is what I want to hear. Lets hope that the cooler temperatures this weekend really ramp up activity for the shotgun opener. It looks like it won't be a total washout this Saturday. :barmy:

Hunted a property for the first time this morning. I seen 10 deer. One 6 point, 2 buttons, the rest does. Pretty evenful morning. Tonight i went to a spot owned by my brothers friends family as it is much closer to home then where i went this morning, i got soaked from the rain and seen 3 does way out. Tomorrow i am going back up to where i was this morning.
|
Slow morning today and windy. I only seen 2 does and they were acting real uneasy with the wind. I won't be back out until later this week sometime.
|
Missed a stud 10 pointer today, came into rattling at 7:40 am, 40 yard quartering away shot on the first miss, 60 yard broadside on the second miss.
Looked for hit signs, found a shattered sapling at the second miss, then found a hit vine at the first miss. Only deer I saw during 3 straight days of hunting, 2 different counties. |
I think things will be busting loose this week and next. I am going to get my boy in the bus tomorrow morning and hit the woods. It is raining today and should rain until late tonight. Tomorrow should (and I stress should!!!) be AWESOME!!!
|
I got this nice lookin 9 this morning. My biggest buck so far. I used the can call at about 7:15 and within minutes this buck came running in behind me. He was on me so quick i had problems getting situated for the shot. He turned and started to head to the fence that separates the 2 properties and then he heard the click on my safety. He turned and looked at me and i shot and hit more forward then i would have liked. It ended up taking another round to finally end it

This deer was on me almost as soon as i sat the thing down. It was the quickest hunt of my life lol. |
