Why not waste your time going south? There are turkeys out the ying yang around here and nobody hunts them yet except the deer hunters. I have seen turkeys everywhere I go even in city limits now. A guy I work with has a pic of over 200 turks in a single file line and he said they still followed for another 15 minutes. The DNR has done an excellent job of reintroducing them. Don't really think there is the habitat for them in the upper part of the state. They seem to flourish in the bottoms and young timber groves. They really love to roost in the pines.

Stuffit44. Hundreds of thousands of acres of public land to hunt down my way. Get on line and search Crab Orchard, Rend Lake, Ten Mile Creek, and the Shawnee National Forest. Just mail me if you need any specifics or want to know where I have seen them before. I don't hunt deer or turkey so you will have to do your own scouting but I can show you where they are commonly seen and even a roost or two. Go to your regional DNR office and they will have brochures on all these places I have mentioned.
