Well, it's that time again. There's 1 day left of bow season - but yesterday was it for me....
I tried for my own version of a "grand slam" - a deer in all 3 seasons - bow, rifle & muzzleloader. I hunted more than I ever have, this year - I'm exhausted. I was able to get one deer during rifle season, and one deer during muzzleloader season. I struck out during bow season. But, that's OK - I had the best time ever.
My freezer's full, and I ain't complaining. This is the first year/season I wasn't sick - that's why I was able to spend so much time in the woods. Now it's time to sit back and reflect on my new memories. After all, the only other thing to do is wait till next year!
I hope everyone's season was as memorable as mine...

Me and a buddy or two are working out our own little MO Slam, something like a deer, rabbit, sqrl, yote, bobcat, dove, duck, goose, turkey, and maybe throwin in some fish for fun (trout, large/small/white bass, catfish, etc). Oh, maybe even a feral hog/boar/whatever.
I like your idea, maybe next year! I am looking at ML pistols, something different and a little less to carry around, kind of a break after hauling the bow and gun around, take a break with a pistol before heading back out with the bow.
OH, and personal opinion, ML season being right after gun like it is, I think that would be as hard as bow season really, I saw zero deer during shooting hours during ML.

Hucklburry - For some reason, I decided to make things a little more interesting this year. I was even thinking along the same lines as you. I wanted to try something different, so I bought a muzzleloader. I bought a T/C Encore - 209x50 Magnum. I'm planning on getting some pistol barrels for it too, so I can hunt the firearm season next year with a handgun.
I know what you mean about ML season. I wasn't seeing anything! The doe I got during ML season was taken 15 minutes before legal shooting time was over. I was just getting ready to pack it in, when I heard a twig snap...<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

Chairman,
I am hoping to complete my grand slam this weekend. I harvested a doe in early bow season, a smaller 8 in shotgun, and plan to take a doe this weekend with the handgun. It has been a great year for me as well. My son sat with me bow hunting and saw his first buck in the timber. He is hooked.

MoBow - Did you get a turkey(or 2)?
The largest flock I've ever seen was around 20 turkey's....
Bill L- Good luck on your grand slam!
I love to hear about someone taking their kid(s) hunting. Sounds like you got a new hunting partner! Way to go...

Well wouldn't you missouri boys know it...down here in southwest missouri 1 weekend after bow season we get a real good snow and cannot go bowhunting. That stinks. Me and a buddy went 2 weeks ago when it snowed and I saw a real pretty 4 point buck about 70 yards or so out. Tried gruntin at him but it had only minimal effects on him and he didn't come in. A real nice lookin deer however and now that he's made it through the season he should be even nicer come next season. Had a real good time this season with my new bow and can't wait for next season.
