yeah we did get one out of the trees by shining as we were leaving a field, but we got 12 others with the dogs. It was a farm that hadn't been hunted in a long long time. so the coon weren't real bright. 4 or 5 treed within a 100 yards of the edge of the field. This past weekend we were in a tourney that went by heaviest coon. We only got 3 coon because there was a full moon and clear skies. you could damn near shoot without a light. we ended up winning the contest with a 26 lb 3 oz coon. we got lucky, on a good night that would never win. good luck to all!!!!

Coon hunting - A plausible excuse for running around the woods in pitch dark in a drunken state while chasing dogs for no acceptable reason .

Sounds like you don't know what coon hunting is all about Kevin. Hunt boy that is one heck of a coon. Where are you from? In Southern Ill. if you kill one over 20 pounds you've done something. I'm pretty sure I've never came close to 26 pounds. Keep running em!

I hunt in west central wisconsin. Near laCrosse.. 26 lbs is a nice coon, but wiebke, the fur dealer in lacrosse has a big coon contest going on all season, and so far the biggest coon is 34 lbs, and they've had 10 in over 30 lbs. around here a 20 lb coon is about average!!! good luck!!

Are you sure you've shot 5 or 6 coon over 50 lbs? the biggest i've ever heard of around here is 42 lbs and weibke has their big coon contest every year and they only have that 34 lb coon. 50 lbs seems almost too big to believe at least not 5 or 6 of them. they eat just as much corn around here as they do in iowa.
