Rut in Brown County, Illinois
I am heading out to a small town in Brown county called Timewell. I will be there the week of Nov 15 to 22. Does anyone know if this is a good week for the rut, and info about the hunting in this area would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I bowhunt in brown county Illinois in October every year. I hunt an area that is about 10-15 miles from Timewell, just south of MT.Sterling. I have always seen good deer #s and good bucks in the area and have always been successful in harvesting deer there. There are also a some good outfitters in the area. Timewell is just north of Shiloam Springs State Park and the Buckhorn Unit. I havent hunted the Timewell area but I would imagine that with the close proximity to the other aformentioned areas you should see good deer.I believe the bioligists are saying Nov, 9 or 10 for the Illinois Rut to begin. Hopefully someone else here has more specific info on the Timewell area to offer you.You can also contact the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for additional info on the area, I believe they have a office just down the road from Timewell located in Mt, Sterling. Good luck on your hunt.

RE: Rut in Brown County, Illinois
Thanks for the info! I will be hunting private land with some friends from Pa. The land we hunt has not been hunted yet this year, and is only hunted for two weeks of the season. There will be 4 of us, and boy they have arrowed some very impressive bucks off of this property. A beautiful 11 and 10 point came off of it last year. I have never hunted Illinois, and I just can't wait. About six years ago a friend of mine met this farmer, and made this arrangement to hunt his farm. Unfortunately, they only take 4 people, and there was never room. This year one guy couldn't go, so I get my chance. They all said they see alot of deer, and some really good bucks. Here in Pa., our deer hunting is so screwed up, a basket rack 8pt. is a prize. Any info on hunting these Illinois bucks, is greatly appreciated. I shot a good 10 in Kentucky with a muzzleloader, and got a nice 9 in Texas last year, now I'm searching for that Midwest monster to put right between them on the wall.
