Indiana Hunters
Just thought I'd start this thread now. Last year we had a great thread going all the way until December or so. Even had a young lady post pics of a few deer she took.
I hunt in Adams County, and up in LaGrange County. Scouted the LaGrange land yesterday (saturday, sept 17), saw 3 scrapes (no joke! VERY early for that around here) and trees' that have been destroyed from rubs. Even kicked a few big does up too. Can't wait to get up there in 2 weeks! |
RE: Indiana Hunters
i am also counting the days. We hunt mainly jackson county, but i have been up around northern part of columbus and some other places just outside Jackson. Good luck out there!
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
im hunting down south in Warrick, Vanderburgh, and Pike County.. last 2 years i have taken two bucks scoring 130 or high one in warrick and one i pike.. i whitnessed a buck making a scrape yesterday.. Seems to me that they are doing that pretty early this year. i came across a few rubs. also saw what looked to be a 145 inch 8 pointer symmetrical as could be. running around i hope to see him Oct. 1 :-)
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
We've seen TONS of rubs..and some scrapes on the edges of fields. Kicked up does feeding in bean fields too. Got the last of our stands up yesterday...going up today to finalize everything with bow holders and the like.
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
thats cool.. yesterday in this woods behind my house.. i saw 3 does 2 fawns 1 spike and a nice 8 pointer. probably 135-140.. he was actually running these does.. i watched for a good hour or so.. they came out at about 6 central time.. but he had all the dder running.. theres a field right nex to the woods.. thats where all this was happening.. he was the last one to walk out in the field.. and he came out strutting.. it was cool
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
I haven't been seeing deer at all , there's so much food and water in the local woods right now that they don't have to travel .
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
;)them deer around here are on the acorns, thats where i will be on saturday, i wish you all a great season and a safe one.
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
They haven't touched the acorns around here yet..which is suprising to me. It appears as if corn and beans are their primary and secondary food source still...while acorns aren't on their list right now.
I believe Saturday and Sunday will prove to be nice weather wise...although a bit warmer than I'd like. Highs are expected to be mid-70's as of Tuesday night. |
RE: Indiana Hunters
ya the deer are hitting the soybeans right now.. i expect them to start heading for them acorns in a week or so.. thats where i'll be.
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
*UPDATE*
I've discovered to my delight that several of the persimmon trees on my land have already started dropping sweet ripe fruit ! Just in time for bow season and right over a trail leading from a soybean field right across the road . I have a ground blind spot already picked out between the road and the trees , things are looking up for this weekend ! :) |
RE: Indiana Hunters
Realistically, I don't plan on seeing many deer on my land until:
A) Beans get combined. 2) Temps go down to where they are supposed to be. D) Pre-rut kicks in. Until then, I'll target the fields in the morning and evenings. |
RE: Indiana Hunters
Hey guys. I hunt blackford huntington and whitley county. Anyone else up in my area? I can't wait for tommorrow morning.
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
I hunt in Cass County. I dont plan on hitting the woods until the last 2 weeks in October. It's been my experience that the closer to Novemeber it gets, the better the hunting is. So i like to stay out of the area until they really get moving. Last year i decided to go out early, since it got so cold early in October, i think i seen maybe 5 doe in 2 weeks. As soon as the Corn went down on Halloween night, i had 12 deer under me, including a young buck. That last week in October i seen a buck every morning i went out. I just hope this year they have grown up a tad.
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
well the wife had a nice doe on the ground by 7:30 she had a pass thru, and watched the doe go down!! great way to start the season!!
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
Looks like my start to the season is gonna be delayed by a broken leg in two places, and a broken and dislocated ankle, with two screws in it. Bring 'em down for me fellas.
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
Saw a bunch of does early..and late in the day.
Gonna try in the morning..but that's it. Football's on tomorrow. GOOO COLTS |
RE: Indiana Hunters
saw 3 does on sat. but couldn't get off a shot without getting busted. Nothing on sunday.
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
Hey everyone... it's been a while since I have been here, had a lot going on with getting married and all that... also was getting a ton of undesired PM's last time I was 'round these parts, so I am going to disable the PM's this time to avoid that whole mess.
I got to go out Saturday night, Sunday morning and Sunday night.... saw 8 does total this weekend, closest one was at about 100 yds. She was with two little ones headed my way, but I think the sun was reflecting off of my broadhead and gave her a "head's up". She didn't get spooked, but she changed her path after 15 minutes of staring in my direction and never came back around. I don't think I am going to have a good bow season... have some teenage kids with 4 wheelers all over the dang place stirring up the whole woods, usually we see a good 20-30 deer on any given weekend, but since they rented that house, our place to hunt has gone to hell in a handbasket. I think we are going to offer the landowner money to keep them off the property until December, it's the only thing we can come up with, the kids have no respect. They drove right under my husband's stand 4 times last night until he came out and gave them hell, they didn't seem to care, stopped for 20 minutes and went right back at it.[:@] The landowner told them if our truck was in the field to stay out, but like I said, they have no respect... He ended up coming to my stand and sat with me, there obviously was no point to sitting in his. Lots of tracks, no rubs yet, some very well worn trails running directly under my stand though, we happen to have apple trees all around our stand, so it's a good spot if we can keep the yin-yins out! |
RE: Indiana Hunters
Vigo County here, actually hunt on the southwest Vigo/Sullivan county line. Down by the new Fairbanks area. Most crops still in, to dog gone hot, only seen on and it was on the edge. Going to wait until maybe Thursday befor we go out again. Then hunt the western edge maybe 30 yds in to the woods, between the corn and the water. By hunting closer to the water it should up our chances of seeing anything.
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
Sorry to hear about the PM deal, BHG...being that I remember you last year on here. BTW, you still hunt NE Indiana area?
WTH...91 degree's today on OCTOBER 3rd?!?!?! Got out of work early..REALLY wanted to go hunting..but screw that idea. I'll wait until later this week when the temps are supposed to drop to the 60's as a high...starting Thursday or so. |
RE: Indiana Hunters
Yeah, it was a hot one this weekend, I always wear my jacket to the stand to avoid scratches all over my arms, but when I got there,I was soaked with sweat, I'm sure that attracted a TON of deer [:-]It's been a weird October already, but here in about 3 weeks we will have a full moon and the deer will be movin' with the cooler temps. I am glad to be back here, I love sharing the stories, I just have to be careful not to spend too much time here. ;)
I'm still in NE Indiana, still in Noble County, looking for another venue for bow season though... those yin-yin's are going to be the death of my season if we don't find somewhere else to set up. [:@] |
RE: Indiana Hunters
Long time no chat Pat, how bout that Colt D?:D The weather is way too warm for me to go near the woods, i just cant stand sweating in a tree stand, if it's not 40 degrees or lower, im not havin it. To pass the time i been chasing some big King Salmon in the Harbor at Michigan City. Got one a couple weeks ago that went around 14 pounds. I got a pic in the fishing forum.
BTW Pat i tried sendin ya a PM at COLTPOWER a while back, i post there as "Marvelous88." Im tied for 4th on the pigskin pickem, not too bad so far. |
RE: Indiana Hunters
Aw man.... nothing ever changes, you two are back to the football talk... and the Colts to boot [:-] [&:] How about those Dolphins? Anyone for the dolphins? ANYONE?
I have a half day off sometime this week, I am thinking about taking it Thursday since it will be the first cool day around here, deer should be moving a little better. |
RE: Indiana Hunters
Yeah, i havent talked to Pat since last January. Over the offseason my computer went down, i lost my password to this site and tried to get it emailed to me but i never got it. So i lost all my posts and my ranking, and i had to go back in create a new account with a tweaked up username. Now im just a little ol spike.
How are the crops doing around other areas of the state. I have noticed quite a few farmers taking out the corn earlier this year around here. I hope that continues. Good luck to everyone this season. |
RE: Indiana Hunters
Hey bigbuck00!! It has been a while. Colt's DEFENSE is puttin' the hurtin' on opposing teams. Bob Sanders is a STUD! The true test will be against NE November 7th..gonna be a GREAT game. [8D] I didn't get the PM at ColtPower..but still hang there and post there from time to time. I'm not a "Premium Member" anymore...about to "pop the question" to the g/f (of 4 years)..just moved into a house together..and plan on getting a boat this spring..so I've been cutting back on spending $$ on "wants"..as opposed to "needs." [>:]
It appears the beans have been heavily combined the past week or so..and some corn as well. Walking thru a bean field last Saturday/Sunday in 70 degree + temps was not fun...but we did see deer. I'm ready for the 50's and 60's later this week! |
RE: Indiana Hunters
Pat... you're gonna pop the question, eh? My advice, having just gone through this... make sure you give yourself sufficient time to plan your wedding! We got married at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum and it was beautiful, but it was stressful planning it all in 9 months, give yourselves a year if you are going to have a big wedding, or better yet, save the $5000 you would spend on that nice wedding and elope to Vegas or the Bahamas or something with it... just take a few close friends/family and call it good! I loved my wedding, it was elegant, comfortable, everything I ever dreamed of (under $5000 too ;)), but we would have been just as married if we would have eloped. [&:] Anyway, good luck on the proposal, does she know, or is it going to be a surprise?

RE: Indiana Hunters
btw, here is a picture of Mr. and Mrs. Buck Huntin Girl...

RE: Indiana Hunters
wow... a little big... um, well, I don't know how to make it smaller, YIKES! Sorry about that!
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
Hunted Jefferson/Switzerland all weekend. My best luck was in the evenings. Had 12 Sat evening and 16 Sunday evening all in the alfalfa fields. Still very slow from a normal weekend there. Have seen some does so far Monday and Tuesday in my clover plots in Jackson Co. It s funny you mention the wedding stuff. Some ladies here at school and I were talking about that. They all agreed how much a waste of money it was. They wish now they could just have the money they spent.
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
Very true about all the money involved but it supposed to only happen one time and it is a very big day for her. I'm getting married June 9, 2005 and I give my fiance ALOT of credit with the planning and everything. I really didnt realize everything that goes along with planning the big day. But she is definitely worth it.

RE: Indiana Hunters
if you are using XP on your pc, you can select to email that picture to yourself and it will let you resize it in the email. Then just check your email and resave the picture and it will be reduced down.
That is a easy way if anyone needed to know. Especially if you dont have the programs to edit it. |
RE: Indiana Hunters
THat is what is suppose to happen once, but those are few between. I told some ladies at school who have been married several time and are living with someone. WHat can you do when your married that you cant do when your living with them? Then you get if you love them you'll marry them, so you dont love someone until you say I Do? Then bang your in love.
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
I tell you what, it isn't about loving first then marrynig or marrying first than loving, it's about constantly and consistently doing things to GROW your love for the person. Just like any sport, the more you practice, the better it gets. You have to make an effort to get to know that person better each and every day, some people think that after a while there is nothing left to learn, but it isn't true, if you look for things, you'll find them. I can honestly say that since the wedding planning stress is gone away and we are back to a normal playing field where I can focus everything on him, I love him even more than I did when we were first dating... I am starting to get the butterflies back when I think about him or when he touches me or kisses me, it is the most awesome feeling in the world. Love takes work, it isn't always easy, and marriage definitely is no stroll through the daisies. You have put effort into keeping it healthy, energetic, spontaneous and fun.
Don't ever let yourselved get into a monotonous pattern, always have that little bit of spontaneaity in your relationship, just a little will go a long way. Do things together frequently, like... HUNTING! :) It is an excellent time to be together and enjoy nature and each other at the same time, you also will make some awesome, unforgettable memories. I wish the best of luck to all of you who are about to take the plunge, keep your significant other as your best friend at all times and you will do just fine. Okay, just my words of advice, I've been through an unhappy marriage as well, and experience is the best mentor, I learned from that what NOT to do... |
RE: Indiana Hunters
I havent been married so I am no expert. I am going by what 70 women at school tell. If you can keep all that alive BHG that is great, I wish you the best and hope you can. I just have these women here who have been married for 20, 30 years and still love there husband dont get me wrong but they are in a kind of rut. THey have been all over to gether done everything together, etc. They tell me they get in a big cycle a routine, whatever you want to call it. YOu know after the honeymoon is over. Which might be 2 years 5 years or 5 months.
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
BHG, she knows it's coming..but has no idea when. We've both been saving up for a while..so we're ok with money..even though it won't be a huge reception.
Personally, I can't wait. Thanks for asking, BTW. And very nice pic too. You two look great. |
RE: Indiana Hunters
That's great Pat.... we only had 100 on the guest list and had about 70 or so show up. It wasn't huge, but it was nice. We were happy with it. My husband surprised me with a horse and carriage ride after the ceremony and before the reception. I had no idea about it, you should do that for her, it was so awesome. It was gorgeous, everyone waves at ya and honks and stuff. Do you know where you guys will get married at? You should check out the unique but fairly inexpensive places for venues... like the Corvette Museum which is right on 69, South of Fort Wayne by the Jefferson Pointe area, basically on the corner of HWY 14 and 69. I didn't get to check how much it is, but it would be an awesome place for the ceremony and reception.
I don't know how much the botanical gardens are in Ft. Wayne either, but that makes a gorgeous setting for it all too. Anyway, it's just a suggestion, I think it's cool to have a unique place, ya know? Okay, I'll shut up about it, it's your wedding anyhow.... sometimes I'm too helpful. |
RE: Indiana Hunters
Congrats Pat. I got married in January of 04. We werent big believers in having an expensive wedding. To us, it was just like throwing money away. All we did was get a church, had the ceremony and and a reception at the Knights of Columbus. Thats what i like about my wife, she is so unmaterialistic, well that and she loves to fish with me and go watch the Colts.:D What more can you ask for. Congrats again, if you are like me, you will be most worried about how nervous you are going to be standing in front of all the people.A good way to cure that is to take to the bottle about 2-3 hours before hand, just make sure you give yourself a good hour to sober up a tad. Im one of the shyest guys around and i hate being in front of people, the man who married us told me i was the most composed guy he had ever seen at a wedding. LOL
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
That's awesome bigbuck... I agree, the average wedding costs upwards of around $20k nowadays... what a waste of money, that's the spirit, go into debt BEFORE you get married... what an idea. I have never understood that. I got lucky, our parents are both divorced, and everyone chipped in $1000, so we only had to put out $1000 ourselves for a gorgeous wedding. If they wouldn't have chipped in, I guarantee we would have gone to the courthouse!
Funny, we were very composed too, neither of us EVER got nervous, we were both laughing and cracking jokes... people were amazed, but I think that's a good sign. I have never understood why you would get nervous unless you have doubts. My husband went golfing the day of with my dad, my brother and a couple of our friends and he was cool as a cucumber. I just got my hair and makeup done, had breakfast and chilled at my mom's house until an hour before the ceremony. My advice is do NOT overbook your wedding day, do something relaxing and savor every moment of it with those closest to you. :) |
RE: Indiana Hunters
On a side note... back to the original point of this thread... I am taking 1/2 day off tomorrow to sit in the stand, ti will be the first major cool down and the deer should be moving. I also got permission from the property manager where I live and work (I'm the asst. Prop. Mgr.) to hunt the 4 acre woods on our property. We are outside of city limits until next year when we get annexed and my maintence guy is seeing buck tracks back there like crazy. I haven't gone out to look at the sign yet, but last year my husband saw a 6 point back there when he was driving by and this year I'm sure it's bigger and better. I will probably hunt from the ground though, if the residents see me carry a stand back they just might have coronaries! I already have to enter from the street side because if I make my way through the edition with my camo on and bow in hand, they'll call me in and complain... they can be such spoilsports.[:-]
|
RE: Indiana Hunters
Thanks for all the advice guys.
Every Friday is a ½ day for me..so I'll be in my stand by 3pm tomorrow. I really hope this cool weather gets the deer moving more. |
