Fish wanted!
#1
I've gotten a bunch of folks that are interested in fish to feed their dogs. They are looking for good frozen fish.
A bunch of them are up in Chicagoland but several are from elsewhere in the state and many out-of-staters as well.
The hard part of this will be to keep the fish in good condition. They will need to be cooled down quickly and then frozen.
I know that's hard for most of us. After all, how many carp can you put in your kitchen freezer? If you have a chest freezer and a bit of room it's easier.
(I went out and bought an ice maker to keep my fish fresh while on the trip back from the lake)
Let me know if you can freeze some and I'll try to hook you up with someone in your area.
Also, bigheads and silvers are first choice (smaller = better), then smaller carp and buffs(under 10lbs) then bigger fish. No gar. No common carp from the Illinois River (or other 'advisory' waters).
Thanks! This is great PR for us and a good way to use these fish.

For now, just save them whole. (unless you really want to gut them)
I'm saving bread bags and other recycleable (sp?) baggies to put the fish in, so they don't freeze into a solid block. (not that frozen carp blocks are bad, but I probably can't lift'em out of the freezer.)
Algore should be paying me carp re-cycling credits.
The carp out of Evergreen and Clinton should be perfect. They're clean water fish and a nice smaller size.
Some of the folks might down for the Bloomington dog show. So we'd better hit the water!

I've gotten a bunch of folks that are interested in fish to feed their dogs.
I'm interested. Most of my fish come from the pollluted rivers by Chicago, and I can usually give most of them away, but I can save some from other waters, or the species without health advisories.
I'm sursprised about the gar, since they seem to most resemble edible fish of all the ones I get.
Email me with more info please.
Thanks Christine.

These folks feed their dogs in a natural fashion. Dogs are really just funny looking wolves and they feed them whole meaty things the way wolves were meant to eat. (corn and wheat in dog food causes a lot of problems for many doggies... they were never meant to eat grain)
Anyhow, many feed whole critters to their pets. This includes whole fish. A gar would be just too hard for a dog to chew through. I doubt the scales would digest and gar roe is supposedly toxic. (I don't know if it's toxic to dogs, but I'd hate to find out the hard way)
Speaking of gar, we already ate all of our fillets. Have to get more. It's rough but somebody's got to do it.
