Default generator?

Hi all, sorry have not been on, between turkey hunting, working and rigging this boat for wolf creek been busy. Question for all you Garu's, I have 6 500 watt lights, so would a 3,000 watt generator be enough? Two, do we have to do anything special to ground the generator when on the boat, never thought of it till brother said something, what do you all do from not getting shocked?

no you would need a 3500 genny you could use 350 ultras. They are the same as a 500 just pull less juice you need 300 to 500 watts more on the genny than what your lights are pulling so on your genny you could have 2500 or 2600 watts of lights.6 350 ultras would only be 2100 watts

As Buffhntr said, you don't want to pull your generator at more than 80% of its rated continuous (not max/surge) capacity. That being said, you can do it. It is just supposed to shorten the life of the generator.
I also agree about the GE ultra bulbs. They are a win/win situation in my oppinion. I think they put out a whiter light and they pull less juice. I even went with the 225W GE ultras.
About getting shocked....You have seen my set up. It is possiblythe least safe way to do it. I have been in the pouring rain several times with it and have yet to get zapped. If I was to change anything to make it more safe, it would be to put GFCI outlets in the circuit and liquid electrict tape at all the plugs.
Good Luck!

Kendall is running 9 225watt ultras and a Kopter Converter off a 3000 watt generator. (the Kopter converter lets you run your trolling motor off your generator and a single battery all night long)

Getting the ultra bulbs is cheaper than getting a bigger generator.

Homegrown Enterprises sells the ultras online http://www.homegrownenterprises.com/

BTW, I just bought a new 3000 watt 'honda clone' genny for 250.00

Kask, KBI,

I bought it at Costco up in Chicagoland. They had several in stock, but they sell out of stuff fast.

I you want, I can buy another one (if they still have them) when I go back up there.

They have a 1 year warranty even.

Well, will use my initial set up for wolf creek and use my brothers 5000 watt generator, hope it doesn't bother anyone. Thanks so much all for replying. Will those 350 ge bulbs fit a standard 500 watt light?
