Best mule deer sate with OverTheCounter tags?
Looking to go archery mule deer hunting. Does anyone have any advice on easiest states to get tags? or states with over the counter tags. Also best states for population? Any state land out there with mulies?

Well you sure can't go wrong with Colorado these days. Our mule deer are back big time and we have a lot of very nice bucks roaming the state right now. There is public land all over Colorado and all hold good populations of mule deer, with some being much better than others. The northwest part of Colorado is absolutely loaded with mule deer and there is a lot of public land opportunities up there. Tags are available by draw, but most units up there are easy to draw tags for, just have to spend a few minutes applying. If you are looking for a guided hunt, I have some incredible ones and they come with landowner vouchers, so there would be no need to put in for the draw. We marry the voucher up with a Colorado archery deer tag and you are ready to hunt. You are looking at 3500-4500.00 for the guided hunts. Bucks will be in that 165-190"+ on those hunts. Hope that helps a bit as far as Colorado goes. Good hunting.

Colorado does have some great mulie hunting, but no OTC tags. If the unit is good, you most likely need a good amount of preference points. If you want to go next year you will probably need to get a landowner voucher.
Good luck . . .

Most all of our archery hunts come with a landowner voucher available and we do not charge anything extra for the voucher. Also, some of the ranches are easy to draw an archery tag for, so you can go either way. If you are looking for a quality hunt, give me a call. Thanks.

That's because it is now illegal for outfitters to charge for vouchers. Outfitters abused the voucher system so bad they had to pass a regulation that vouchers now must come directly from the landowner to the hunter and a 3rd party (such as you) cannot benefit financially from the voucher. Outfitters had been getting vouchers from landowners and then selling the vouchers for 4 digit sums to the hunters. Y'all got greedy.
