I'm looking to get a pair of decent lower price binoculars for the elk hunt. I've narrowed it down to the Alpen Pro 390 (the waterproof ones) and the Vortex Diamondback. Does anyone have experience with both of these and could make some comparison? They both got pretty decent reviews so I'm trying to decide which way to go.

i don't have experience with the Alpens, but i do with the diamondbacks...got a pair of 10x42 from http://cameralandny1.reachlocal.net/optics/vortex.pl?page=vortexdiamondback10x42
they did have the brown ones that were smugged i picked up for 129 TMD....great glass for the price IMO. i have compared to bushnell binos and leupold in the 300-400 price range and they are compatable IMO...great glass for the price and you CANNOT beat their warranty!
