M722,
Sorry, but no urban legend. Go to any hunting camp and see how many are driving Polaris atv' s. It won' t be many. However, if you quiz the guys more than likely quite a few of them have owned polaris atv' s in the past.
A quote from one of the guy' s in my camp pretty much sums it up. The first day of deer season he pulled up with a new Honda quad on his trailer. I asked him what happened to the Polaris 325 he had last year. The first words out of his mouth were " I got rid of that piece of $hit" .
Nothing like a testimonial from someone who has actually used them. You should try it.

I have really enjoyed watching you guys taking whacks at the different brands!
I waited for a while to respond, to see if a noticable trend unfolded. It is tough to tell, as I can`t easily determine the age of all on here.
Where I work, we have about 50 guys who go quad riding regularly.
The young guys ride polaris, cause they are faster.
The older guys ride honda, cause they are dependable workhorses.
After listening to the young guys flap about how fast their polaris bikes were for a few weeks, I blew the dust off off my other honda. CR 500!
Polaris ain`t really that fast. But they do make alot of noise, and stink.
Guess thats OK, if your a kid!
SOARKREBEL, you better watch my back, I done tipped over the hornets nest now!

I gotcha big country but i' m kind of dazed by that old guys ride honda' s! i' m only 38 and i don' t feel old![&o]
Yeah i used to have a honda 350 x ,uh....in my younger days . that sucker was FAST!!! there ain' t a polaris made that could beat it.
I' ve been riding a long time and i would rather have dependable than fast anymore.
Back when i just had my kawasaki and rode with groups i used to watch what machines would break and and were junk. honestly and not trying to rib these polaris guys , but polaris was the most unreliable piece of junk excuse for a four wheeler ever made! i saw real quick i didnt want one!
But back in the yugo days there were people that bought them and loved them . were are yugo' s now?
The one i am surprised that is still around is artic cat. now they are bigger junk than polaris!
Now truthfully if i am going to throw down 6 grand for a machine i want the best ! i buy honda!! and i get my moneys worth!!

We have three Polaris Sportmans. Two 335' s and a 500. We haven' t had any trouble out of the three and have had them for close to 4 years now.
The thing is, some people swear by Polaris, and other' s hate them. I' m not sure, but it may be a luck thing. Some are good wheelers, and some are lemons. My Grandpa also has a Polaris Magnum and hasn' t had any trouble. Before he bought it he owned a Honda. It was a good four-wheeler, lasted him a long time.
In my opinion, I don' t really think you can go wrong with either. If you don' t like one, you can take it back and buy another. Good luck choosing, both companies make great wheelers.

Big country-Easy on the age thing.I am 42 and don' t consider myself old yet. Many of my friends that also own hondas are much younger. But you may be partially right. Those that ride polaris in my area do tend to be the younger riders that want to travel faster. Most are also not hunters and use their quads for trail riding .The honda riders generally use their quads for work or hunting and don' t care about speed as much as reliable low maintenance machines.

In my opinion I would rank utility ATV' s as follows. I agree that others my have advantages over the honda. But when it boils down to handling, towing, and maintenance the overall performance of a honda atv can' t be beat.
1. Honda
2. Yamaha
3. kawasaki
4. Suzuki
5. Polaris
6. other' s
Again just my opinion hope this helps.

OK, I did not mean to imply that one needed to be old to ride a honda! Maybe seasoned, smarter, wiser, better looking, better in b...you get the point.
Actually, I don`t think that polaris 4 wheelers are bad. They just don`t fit the bill for what I use one for.
My favorite quad for my purpose is the 4trax 300 honda.
It has enough power to haul the biggest buck out of the timber, plus it is small enough to fit between trees.
And they sure are quiet compared to the polaris bikes.
BTW stubblejumper, I hope 42 is not old, cause I don`t want to be old yet![&:]

Young naa young at heart yes. Like I' ve said before I don' t trail ride anymore(health problems) I hear some of you guys saying how loud polaris is your comparing old polarises to new hondas. I understand it' s kind of like comparing Pee wee herman to Arnold S. The newer polarises are 2and4 cycle, in the old day they were 2 cycle. You can buy a polaris that is just as quite as a honda if not quiter.
I see Froman joined us he couldn' t before because he as been out riding. You honda Guys were able to fight your opion because your machines are in the shop( oops I let your secret out, sorry)

Big Country when you raced those Polaris guys were they actually on there machines or did you just park your machine in front of theres and say " I won the race" ?

I' m really enjoying this topic the only problem is I have to keep going outside and getting a shovel, because you Honda guys are really spreading it thick.
