RE: Range Finder
The nikon laser 800 is what we use and so far it has worked great .There are situations where its hard to get a good reading but we had that trouble with the Bushnell and lieca too.

RE: Range Finder
Couldn't afford the Nicon. Tried the yardage pro and it couldn't range my bird dog past 125 yards. I guess for bow hunting that would be fine. I hunt both rifle and bow. While rifle hunting I couldn't care less as long as the target is 200 or less. I sight in for 200 and shot straight away out to 250. I can't judge out any farther than that anymore. I use the Bushnell 1000. Love it. Get the best you can afford.

RE: Range Finder
I would recommend a Bushnell Yardage Pro 500 or the Pentax. Both are great products.

If price is no option and you don't mind some bulk, then go with the Lieca's, they are real nice. In my case I couldn't make myself open the wallet enough for a pair of lieca's, so I went with the Bushnell Pro Scout, it ranges from 10-300 on deer. I have tested it in the field and actually get readings from 7 - 331 yards this past fall on deer or smaller objects like trees. It is light and very compact. The only knock I can give it is, in low light not great and due to size it does take sometime to get over the shakes on those long distance ranges(ie:200+). But for my purposes it is exactly what I need and I didn't have to mortgage the farm.
I mostly use in set up and mark my yardage before had, I believe most do this...however if you plan on using it mostly to find the range on game, the larger styles offered would be a better fit...just due to the stability factor(more like a pair of binos).
Good Luck.
