Default Garmin Rhino's

Looking for info on the new garmin rhino's...GPS/FRS/GRMS unit. Anybody use these? Does the GPS tracking or sending of location work well? Will it transmit 2 Miles or is that a pipe dream? If not how far?

Currently we use FRS's by Motorola and some have garmin etrexs in our party as well. If they do what they say, it would be marvelous. All in one, less bulk and if someone did get lost(or shot something) we maybe able to find them faster or they find us with the sending of location.

thanks

i have the rino 110, lots of bells and whistles on it that you will never use, but to answer your question, yes the radio does transmit up to two miles and it will give your postion to another user, it will also continue to update your postions each time you contact each other. unit is not that easy to setup or use, takes come reading and lots of practice to get it to work right. it has 8 channels of GMRS, which is supposed to transmit 5 miles, but i did not verify this, but while using the GMRS chanels, it will NOT transmit your postion to another user. i would recommend the garmin etex summit and a seperate radio. as far as a good map program, i used maptech, allows me to print out my own maps and if you set it up with UTM and use your gps on UTM also, it is easy to locate yourself on the map. hope this helps.
