I have been wanting to hunt for many years. Unfortunately I never had any friends or relatives that wanted to do more than charter a boat to go fishing(I'm not complaining). So finally I took it upon myself to get out and try some hunting.
I called a guide that has a 1000 acre plot on the west coast of lake okeechobee. We went out with dogs and got a hog in about an hour. I wanted to hunt from a stand but the guide preferred dogs.
He said this hog was about 170 pounds with 1 inch cutters. This was due to its young age but the high amount of acorns this year.
My first hunt was a thrill and I hope to have many years in the future.
A few quick questions. First, because the land is fenced in does that make it a "canned hunt?" Second, does that pig look like its 170? Third, are there people that oppose hunting with dogs, if so why?
Thanks for reading!

Congrats on the hog.
I dont think it is anywhere near 170lb more like 100 to 110.
I am not a fan of hog doggin but hey thats me.
I would say if there is a hog proof fence around the property then yes it is a canned hunt as the hogs can't get out but then again each to their own.

Hey Bang,
Congrats on your first hog! I think the correct question you should be asking yourself is did you have fun? If you had fun and the hunt was done in a legal way then wether it was on a high fence operation or not dosnt matter. I like hog hunting and have never taken one with a dog. Sounds fun, I would probably try it once. I have hunted both in an enclosed area and free range. Both are fun. Again congrats, nice looking hog to cut your teeth on. Keep nockin' them down and make a commitment to hunting to try and introduce someone to hunting.
