well since i always see the scales, after there dressed out.... I judge them like that.
the 2 you posted above... no exageration there.
i would have guess them at 90lbs and 140lbs.. (Field Dressed weight)
which would make them 130 and 200 live weight i suppose.
its just when i see people post w/ picture like that, claiming 200lbs.... i always assumed that was the field dressed weight, not live weight.
i guess because my dad and i have always gutted them on the spot, before even loading them into the truck...
and weighed them later. then i suppose some people load them, and hang them on the scales before they gut while hanging.
i also didnt realize how much the guts weighed... even though i have gutted hundreds of them.
I suppose a 200lb live weight, would be 130-140 dressed out.

the bigger a hog gets, the more the guts are going to weigh also.
a HUGE 400 lb hog.. might have 100 pounds of guts.

Check these out...
the BIGGER hog in the picture.. was actually 30 pounds LIGHTER
Mine was bigger in size, and his was Heavier. he just had some pounds stacked away somewhere.

Jim, I don't really care how much they weigh with guts or without, if they don't fit between my racks, I don't want it.

That is some good eating. We used to do a pig in the ground thing once a year. But it was always a big hassle to get the hair off them: How do you do it.

It's a lot of work, but worth it to us. Any 125-150 lbs(before gutting )is the ones we like. We use 1/2 of a 55 gal drum filled with water andplenty of burningoak under it until you have some good coals under it. When the water is scaldingsoak a burlap sack in the water with a pole, take it out and lay on pigfor 6-7 mins. Then remove andwith the back-end of the butcher knife startscraping the hair off. Before you soak the the burlap again, hose off the pig and continue until the pig is nice and white. We Gutt it and split it down the middle including the head....

the ones you call little "Guinne Pigs" are the best you can get for eating.

REBEL HOG.... Thanks for that post, i have been wondering about that, how to get the hair off to cook the whole thing.
and your right... the 50-70 Pound Hogs are the Best... (which would be the 125-150 LIVE WEIGHT)
How bout these guys right here, now those are gonna be some good eating.
Almost all of them in this group should dresss out around 60lbs. live Weight around 100.

My experience is that a "guessed" weight is what sounds good on the internet. We actually weigh virtually every hog that we kill and we kill up to 200 per year but usually averagea 100. The reason I said "virtually" is that those that are brought back to camp are weighed, however many are never brought back. To bring a large hog back I tie them to the back of the truck and tow them back and they are then gutted on the rack. BTW, we weigh ours with guts in because there are times when no one wants to mess with cleaning them and they are then pulled off to the dump.

In south TX there is a wild hog contest at Los Cazadores that awardsa jacket for the first 3 places. It takes abit over 300# dressed to win one in a normal year. This one came off our place and weighed 255# FDand was only good for a distant 3rd as the 1st and 2nd places were over 300# ina very bad drought year. My point is that real 250# hogs are rare down here in south Texas.
