Wounded Hog
Interesting discovery this past weekend. We had a hunter kill a pure European boar that had a broken off arrow shaft inside it's chest! The entrance hole was center of the hog right behind the shoulder. The broadhead was through the opposite leg more forward and lower down and stopped by the shield. The shaft was broken off inside the hog and the entrance wound was healing. This looked like perfect shot placement but no damage was done except for the broadhead slicing up the area it was lodged in. The hog fit the description of one that another hunter had arrowed three weeks ago and we had not been able to recover. It came to a bait pile with other hogs and was not showing any signs of being injured. This incident verified two things once again. Hogs (especially Euros) are the toughest animals in North America and their vitals are lower in their chest cavity than any other critter.Aim Low!!!

RE: Wounded Hog
Several years ago, I killed a buck during muzzleloader season field dressed it and took it to the processor. He called me back to tell me my deer was done and that he had a surprise for me. When I got there, he had recovered about 9 inches of arrow with the broadhead still attached.
The arrow had entered the deer in the top of the back and lodged in the shoulder. The wound had healed and the broadhead was deteriorated. I never even imagined anything like that was possible.
