Default is my .22 enough?

Well about 2 weeks my mom saw 2 feral hogs out in the pasture, wich is a total first for this area. well that night our horse came up out of the pasture to feed and had a bloody bite on his back leg. That night our neighbor tells us that while he was working on his fence he saw a bunch of hogs down there and called his friend who hunts hogs in south Ga and the next day again our neighbor came over and told us that his friend saw 14 hogs and one that looked to be about 400 lbs. and that big ol' beast had slashed one of the dogs guts open and had to be carried out. What should I do? I'm confident my .22 stingers will kill them if shot in the head, and if that dont work I've got the .54 cal. black powder pistol.

I would tend to agree. A well placed shot with a .22 on a deer is marginal. On a hog I would believe it to be even worse.

I wouldnt think of shooting anything but a piglet with a .22. I would rather use a .17 than a .22. Perosnally.. I shoot the pig with some kind of .30 caliber or your muzzleloader!

With good shot placement, it will kill them. You don't want to take anything but a brain shot. Not knowing your age, hunting experience, or how you plan to hunt them, I'm not telling you to go for it. It can be done reliably, it's not for everyone though!!

I might suggest a hp besides the stinger, I like stingers and shoot them most of the time, I think they may prove a little explosive for this. ie ( not enough penetration)

Like someone already mentioned, don't know how old you are, but a .22 in the middle of the forehead will kill a hog at close range. It will kill a 2000lb bull, if hit in the
forehead at close range.

THEY WORK!!!! about one hr after posting this forum I walked outside and right down by woodline were 4 hogs I stepped into my room grabbed the .22 loaded it and walked back out and picked out the biggest one and got 1 shot behind her eye and she dropped but i unloaded all 15 shots (Just in Case) well she turned out to be about 80 lbs. but yea the stingers tore the crap outta the skull after i skinned her i inspected the damage and the brain was about liquified. with 1 WELL placed shot.

JUST DONT SHOOT THAT 400 LB HOG WITH A 22 . I HAVE SHOT BOARS THAT WEIGHED IN AT A LOT LESS AND WITH LARGER GUNS AND HAD THEM CHASE ME. GENERALY IF YOU ARE CLOSE ENOUGH TO A 400 LB HOG TO HIT IT IN THE HEAD WITH A 22 YOU ARE TOO CLOSE. A HOG IS A MEAN AND NASTY ANIMAL AND THEY ONLY GET NASTIER WHEN WOUNDED. STICK TO THE SMALL ONES FOR NOW AND INVEST IN A GOOD 30/30 OR 12 GAUGE WITH SLUGS OR BUCKSHOTIN IT. FOR THE BIG BOYS.
