Default 2-7 or red dot on a .44?

i just got a S&W performance center 629 slab side and im going to put a scope on it. i deciding between a burris 2-7 or a Aimpoint 2x red dot? i have long arms and if i crank up the burris to like over 4 power than i have to bring my arms in cause of the eye relief. what do you guys think i should put on it. i'll use it for deer hunting.

I had a red dot on a handgun but went back to my Weaver 2.5 X 8...

I'd also go with the Burris. The Aimpoint is a decent close range optic, but it certainly don't have the variable capabilites or the quality of the Burris.

it is to hard to find a good point of aim with the red dot. go with the 2-7 with shooting sticks you will be amazed how good the two go together, i have one on my .44 and one on my .22 super-six that i use for squirrels.

I have used both a Millit red dot and a Bushnell Elete 2X6 x32 scope on my Ruger SRH 454 .
I can change between the two in about 30 - 45 seconds. With no loss of Zero.
But I hunt with the red dot only.
The scope is left to load testing.
With the red dot I can keep all my shots in a 3-4" group at 100 yds ( practicing off the shooting rail of my stand ) ,With the scope I can keep them all in 1 1/2 "(4 power) under the same condituions.

Yes the scope is more accurate. But I find that I can shoot earlyer and later ( because I can see the dot when I could not see the cross hairs)and the red dot is faster to settle on the target .
I do not recomend this ,but last fall I shot a running deer at 75-80 yds with the pistol ( gut shot by someone else) ,with both eyes open using the dot .

Witch ever you chose ,please practice with it till you are a good shot.

The red dot would be cheaper but the 2-7 scope would be better overall.

With the Burris 2-7 you will have a more precise optic. Good luck.

thanks for the replys. i thought the aimpint to be a good optic. they cost about $350 which is about the same as the burris. a friend of mine has the aimpoint with the 2x lens on his .44 and it appeared to me to be on the high end of red dots. i don't plan on taking any long shots. i'll be timber hunting 99% of the time. i have a S&W red dot on my SRH .454. i just wanted a better optic on this better pistol.
