Is there an indent on the primer? Are you making sure the action is closing all the way and seating the cartridge? If it doesn't close all the way the rifle won't fire. Sounds like you really need to take this thing apart and give it a real cleaning. That cleaning the action down with spray cleaner and wiping "the best you can" is a recipe for disaster. Get the owner's manual, take the thing apart and put every part in to hot soap and water and brush, then let it dry and then give it an extremely light oiling and put it back together. Maybe drop it off at a shop and have them do it if you aren't comfortable with it, but understand that you'll never know whats wrong until you clean it and eliminate that as a potential cause of the problem.

No there isn't a dent in the primer. The trigger won't even pull. I tried pushing the action closed but it didn't move any further forward. I am going to go to the Remington website and see if I can get the manual.

This is a semi-auto. I was told that the owner should never take one of these apart. Any experience? I an not willing to pay a smith at this point because I doubt the gun is worth the repair given its reputation.

Thanks
Tom

when your loading it are you letting the action slam shut by its self or are you pushing it forward yourself. I have a 7400 and noticed that if you dont pull the action back all the way and let it slam shut on its own it is very hard sometimes to close the action the last bit. Also about the earlier problem of not loading the second shell have you taken the forearm of and thourghly cleaned the main spring. Mine has jammed once on me and all that was the cause was that from carrying it in wet weather that spring got a little rusty and was using up alot of the energy there.

I used to take mine apart completely after every season before it got stolen. Theres no reason you cant or shouldnt clean them yourselves. Before ya throw it away.....give it to me

I downloaded the manual yesterday. Some time this week I will take it apart and try to get it to function again.

Doe Dumper, I would consider giving it to should I be unable to get it to work and I determine that I can't do anything better with it.

Thanks
Tom

It might be time to take it to a gunsmith and let him give it a thourough once over to find and fix whatever is wrong with it.
