You may be right, it’s been several months since I’ve really looked into RRA’s offerings. They may all be 5.56 chambers now but it wasn’t that long ago when everything but the M4geries were “.223 Wylde” chambers. If that has changed, I stand corrected.

RE: Who makes the best AR-15?
if you got alot of monet to blow you might want to go with an aromrlite in a weird round so to have more power (like the ar-10 mag chambered in 300 winchester short mag. but if you r like me your gonna buy a varminteer bushmaster and a a3 bushmaster and still have enopugh money left over to buy a case of wolf and open up.
a large number of my shooting buddies have ar-15 ranging from colts to panthers and the best ar in my opinion is the bushmaster. i own 2 and i would never get rid of em. and the varmenteer will take the balls off a gnat at 200 yrds.

You guys are great.
I'm favoring the M4A3, which as I understand it has a removable carry handle so that you can add a scope. I've been reading at ar15.com, but as a newbie to the game, I am unfamiliar with a lot of the terminology.
I favor the M4 because I've always sort of favored carbines even though you might surrender a bit of range/accuracy. I like the adjustable butt and I intend to mount some stuff on the forearm so I'll probably have to consider ordering the forearm to accomodate those type of options.
I'll be using the rifle for general plinking and the destruction of the Ohio groundhog population at distances up to about 250 yards, but occasionally maybe 300 to 350 yards at most.
Like I say, I'm trying to read up on it as there seems to be a number of great options out there, but I'm leaning toward Bushmaster.
A local dealer has some rifles from Olympic Arms that have something like "For police or government use only" stamped on the magazine insert area. He claims that he bought these before the ban was lifted and states that the ban will probably be reinstated at some point, thus the stamp will add value to the guns that have that stamp on them, yet still be grandfathered and legal. The prices he's charging don't seem to reflect a premium for that stamping, for what it might be worth.
Still leaning toward a Bushmaster though.
Would like to know more about "building" one....How can this save money? How difficult is it? What would you guys suggest I order and what options should I consider?

Thanks, Ridge Runner, that was excellent.
So the chrome moly or stainless barrels are more accurate?
Where do I order a kit?

As far as kits go when you order a kit you get everything needed to build a complete rifle except the stripped lower, so for about a couple hours time, and about 625.00 you can build a 24" varminter or maybe for a lil more or a lil less almost any configuration you like. The upper that comes with the kit is fully assembled and headspaced so all you do is put the parts in the lower and attatch the stock. This you could do with only a leatherman if it were the only tools you had.

you can always look at ADCO... You can't beat their prices...
http://www.adcofirearms.com/
GREAT to deal with by the way... They KNOW their AR's!!! Basically that is their business, in terms of making them for military contractors, police, civilians, etc.
