Bushnell Banner, Good scope?
I have been looking at into new scopes lately because I need one for out Marlin .17 and for my Browning 280.
Is the Bushnell Banner a decent scope? I know it is not a high end scope at all, but for all the climbing trees and drives I do, I don't want an $800 scope on my gun. Is the Banner a respectable scope or not? Does it compare to a leupold VX-I at all?
Thanks,
Steve

I had a Banner a long time ago and it did a good job for me. You might invest a little more money and get a Bushnell Trophy instead. I have a 3x9 Trophy on a 30-06 of mine and it does a good job. Not as good as the Leupold on my 300 Wby, but for the money it is a good scope.

Most Bushnells are better than folks give them credit for. While I am a confirmed fan of the Zeiss Conquest, I have two Bushnell Trophy scopes as well, and I've never been disappointed with them. I've taken three times as many game animals with my Bushnells as I have with my Zeiss scopes. The Trophy 3-9x40 can be had for well under $100. The optics aren't quite as crisp or sharp as the Zeiss but they are still quite good, and the resettable fingertip adjustments are great, better than Zeiss' in my opinion.
Still, if you've got an extra five bills some day, treat yourself to a Zeiss, or one of the beteer Leupolds. Good galss doesn't spoil you - - it RUINS you!

They are "serviceable". At one time, the Banner was the cheapest/lowest quality scope that Bushnell sold, but they've put out some even cheaper, lower-quality lines since then, so the Banner is no longer the lowest on the Bushnell totem pole!

Thanks guys.
I still have to make up my mind. I am temped to try a leupold once, but I think I might just get another trophy or Banner. The Banners are going for next to nothing on Ebay. A 4X12 banner for $50. Thats crazy.
I had a Trophy on my .280 before this, and on the last day of the season this year the gas leaked out and it went foggy on me. I think it had to be at least 8 years old.
