..... possiblity of 400 yard shots. ..... windy in this area..and I really don't want to go 243 what are other good options ? Thanks
Go with a Remington 22-250. Here's a link to the rifle I'd consider, a Remington
Model 700™ LV SF,

OEH, if you decide to get that 22" barreled Remington, I would like to hear how it does for you. Thanks.

I have a 22 hornet but in talking to the landowner he says there is a possiblity of 400 yard shots. Now I can use a Sendero in 308 with a tactical scope on them which I would rather not do or a walking around varmint rifle. I really like this .204 Ruger but it is windy in this area..and I really don't want to go 243 what are other good options ? Thanks
Windy 400 yard shots....25-06. And it will blow them to smitherenes.

That was my initial instinct for 400 yard large varmints. And a 26" barrel if you can handle the weight. Screamers need long tubes to burn the powder efficiently. Prairie winds will kick your butt after 300M because you really start to slow down.
