I like my scope but all my scopes are mounted with see through mounts so that I can use my iron sights if needed
I gotta go with critter on this one. I sight in the scope at 100 yards and use see through mounts for close up shots.

I used open sights early in my hunting career, but have been using a scope for quite a few years now. For me it was a matter of being able to see antlers on a deers head. A scope is real useful in that regard. I used to use a 3x9, but after not getting a shot on 2 dandy bucks that were running at very close range, I've since dropped down to a 1.75x5 and a 2x7. This has not been a problem since. I am now a firm advocate that when hunting in the "brush" you don't need anything above a 2x7. That's more than enough.

There are some rifles so well balanced in themselves that it's just a crime puttin' a scope on 'em. The Winchester 94 carbine is one example.

All of the above SCOPES for me. Its hard to use iron when the rear is fuzzy and there are three or four front pins.

My favorite is open sights. I will use a scope when hunting in terrain where there is a probability of an extended range shot.
