Default Rifled choke

Are rifled chokes for shotguns & slugs effective? Seems like the choke area is too short to be of any real good. Does it have any positive effect on a slugs flight? No effect? Negative effect? Thanks folks.

it helps, but really only with sabot slugs. Sabots cant be fired from a regular smoothbore, and a rifle choke is a budget alternative for those who cant afford or find a whole new rifled barrel.

It only takes about two inches of rifled barrel to stabilize a bullet.

Yes they work and some work especially well but a fully rifled barrel is the best option.

Please explain "sabots can't be fired in a regular smooth bore"? I realize it's kind of pointless to use sabots in a smooth bore, but the "can't" part caught me off guard. So a rifled choke won't do any good for a regular slug? Only the sabots? This whole slug thing is kind of new to me so please bear with my inexperience. Much thanks.

i have a rifled choke in my 870 and i found it was an excellent improvement over the smooth bore with rifled slugs but didn't do much for sabots. remington buckhammer's were designed for use in rifled chokes or fully rifled barrels.
