Default New gun questions Rifle and Pistol?

I am getting ready to do some gun changing to reduce my stock a bit and make my reloading chores a bit easier. I need some info on a few guns I am thinking of getting. Since I have the new 308 Browning A Bolt, I think I will trade my 7600 30-06 for a 7600 in 243 to give me a good repeating Varmit (coyote and such) A pump is the only thing I can work well with my bad shoulder. Anyone have the pump 243 and how does it shoot? Next off, does anyone have the Savage accu-trigger rifle in 270WSM If so how does it perform? Does anyone have the Ruger Blackhawk Hunter model in 44 Mag? Does it shoot well? Last but not least how about the newer Glock 45 GAP? Any comments on this one? Thanks!!

James, the only one I have any experience with is the Glock in the new GAP and I was not impressed at all. Supposedly, their main reasons for this new caliber is less recoil and close to the same performance as the .45 auto. I'm used to shooting heavier 1911 style autos in .45, so really the lighter Glock in GAP didn't seem to have that much less recoil. If the reason you're looking at the GAP is less recoil, go with the model 21 and ease up on the powder charge on the reloads. just my .02

With the GAP I was thinking more of the size. I am considering the Ruger as well. I have had good service from the Ruger 45 acp. The other consideration is the Kimber which other than price would be my first choice. Thanks.

I understand. And, other than the price, the Kimber is awesome! I have the Ultra CDP and its an unbelievable little gun. And I'll also agree with the Ruger. I had a P90 a few years ago and it was fine pistol as well. If it not for buying the Kimber, I'd still have it.

MY COLLECTION IS PRETTY SMALL AT THIS POINT, HOWEVER I HAVE A PERSONAL GUIDLINE TO NEVER SELL OR TRADE A GUN ONCE I OWN IT BECAUSE I KNOW IF I DO I WILL ALWAYS WISH I HAD NEVER SOLD IT!

I UNDERSTAND NOT EVERYONE IS THAT WAY, GOOD LUCK IN YOUR TRADES!

ALSO I AM A BIG FAN OF SIGS AND THEY MAKE A NICE SIZED COMPACT .45 ACP I DON'T KNOW THE MODLE NUMBER. YOU SHOULD CHECK IT OUT

Thanks. I had a Sig 220 45 ACP great gun. I have done so much gun trading and I know how it works. I have kicked myself in the but many times for trades I made. However its time to scale back a little.

The Savage Accu-Trigger is every bit as good as Savage brags it up to be. My 10ML-II has the Accu-Trigger, and it's a good one.

You said that "pump is the only thing I can work well with my bad shoulder," but have you considered going with a semi-auto? I'd think that a Browning BAR ShortTrac .243 would be a perfect addition, and much faster/easier to operate than even a pump gun. Of course, the price is a bit more, but you get a lot of gun for the money with the BAR.

I may have to check on the BAR. My brother has one in 30-06 but its an older one.

I've got the Super Blackhawk that you ask of. It's not the Hunter model, but the 7 or 7.5" standard SBH.

Mine shoots very well...I had it drilled and tapped for a scope (red dot 1.75x), I feel confident taking 100yrd shots on deer with it with my handloads.

Regrettably, I bought mine just a week before Ruger announced the "Hunter" model. I wish I would have waited, then I'd have certainly waited and bought a Hunter version with the scope rail already installed.

I'm looking at a Single Six hunter in .17HMR right now, I think that'd be one hot little varmint gun!

I'd have to agree on the Accu-trigger, It takes a little getting used to and set just right, but once there it's a dream. As far as the 45 goes, I love the glocks but don't really see the need for the GAP. I carry a Springfield 1911 U/C in stainless. The only bad thing is the weight, but the extra weight comes in handy with a 3" barrel.
