Check out the 270wsm flatter shooting than 280 with the same grain bullet, and you should only have to travel 5 miles to your local walmart to find more bullet choices. I would also put my bet on the avalibility 10 yrs down the road with the wsm.

I bought into the WSM craze myself, not sure why maybe an excuse to buy a new rifle. After many dependable years of service I decided to retired my .270 Win and move to a fresh new .270 WSM rifle. My impressions, ammo is more expensive (yes even to reload), factory loaded ammo is limited thus far, and I guess most importantly, I have yet to find one thing that the WSM will do that the standard 270 can't. That being said it is still a nice toy and I do believe that the WSM's in most calibers are here to stay, we're talking about them right now!

I've been thinking of buying a new WSM myself. If you already own a .270 or .300 there is no real advantage to going out and buying one in a WSM. If you are buying a new gun the new WSM are supposed to have a little better velocity and less reoil.

There is a marked advantage in Muzzle Velocity, Velocity, Muzzle Energy and Energy (in summary: more stopping power). I can't understand why people keep claiming that the WSM cartridges have no advantages...

I have been searching for a Tikka for 3 months!!! In my humble opinion the WSM cartridges are here to stay, the WSSM may be a different story though. The .270WSM is simply amazing. I will have it! lol

Now, your talking. A good 280 would serve you well for many years to come.
