I think I have my wife intersted in deer hunting now, had her out with me this year and saw how fun it can get. I've been thinking about getting her a 243, we also have 2 girls, the oldest if 5 and I'm trying to get her intersted here in the furture. I typically hunt on public ground, so it's alot of woods, not really thick, but is in places. I want something so the wife and both girls can use, so I don't want something with alot of recoil. I've also looked though here and noted the 7mm-08, but not familar with this caliber. I myself shoot a 308, 150 gr bullets, it packs a punch.

The 7mm-08 and 6.5x55 are two great choices, drop any deer you'll see and have low recoil.
