RE: Ultra Mag Question???
Thats what I use,89.5 grains Reloader 22 w/ the 200 gr bullets
and 91 grains h1000 for the 165 boatails.Federal large mag primers.
Now work up to these levels and becarful.

RE: Ultra Mag Question???
Bareback, where did you hear of such a stiff load? Alliant only recommends 91gr of Re22 max for a 180gr bullets. Nosler recommends less than that with 87gr of RL22 with 180gr bullets, and you are shooting 200gr. Maybe you did your own experiementing and concluded it was safe. I ain't as brave as you.

James, I don't think the question is need. Or even want, but the raw figures. I am a big a win mag fan myself. Remember anything past 2600fps and 165gr is overkill. Rest is just good ole fun.

RE: Ultra Mag Question???
I trust you don't mean me as I have been praising the 300 Win Mag through this whole post. However the 30-06 would do me just as well. I just came back from the range where I chronographed some Federal 150 grains loaded with Speer 150 grain Grand Slame. They clamed 2910 on the box and the clocked 2913 for five shot average. Thats plenty of steam for most big game. I doubt I would have any more fun if the bullet hit the animal at 3200 instead. Thats about where I load my 300 Win Mag with 150 grain bullets. Good hunting.

RE: Ultra Mag Question???
Unless you are going to shoot at ranges of 400yards or farther ,and are willing to spend the time and ammunition to practise enough to develop and maintain the skills to be accurate at long range, the ultramags offer no advantage. For those people willing to put in the time and effort to practise a great deal and learn the windage and trajectory(a very small percentage of shooters) they do offer an advantage at longer ranges.

No, James B, I didn't mean you or anyone else on this particular post. It sounds like all of us are mag users. I meant to only quote the last two sentences. "Remember anything beyond 2600 fps and 165 gr. is overkill. The rest is just good ole fun." This was meant instead for those who try to see how small a gun they can shoot, and criticize us for having a penchant for performance.

RE: Ultra Mag Question???
Funny.
I have read that some folks think that there is very little differance between the 300 Win. Mag and the 30-06 if you are within 250 yards. Then there isnt any differance between the 7 mag and the 30-06 other than bullet dia. Some folks here love the 375 H&H mags, and some here choose the RUM mags. But the differance between all of these folks all comes down to really what they have been able (money wise) to be fortunate enough to have or have had a chance to shoot . Either by means of a friend or families rifle.
But most of it just boils down to personal pref. Me myself I like to shoot a 270 for deer, my 338 RUM on Elk and bear, a 375 Big Bore for Hogs, and what ever is in the truck for Yodle Dogs.
Now by saying all of this . Does this mean that I can not hit what I am shooting at accuratly?
WHY HELL NO!!!
I just like to know that whatever I hunt is going to be put down with respect. Now as far as the Ultra Mags are concerned. I have said it before and I will say it again. I will compare bullistics between my 338 RUM and your 375 H&H anytime with any bullet.
