There is a time for hold and squeeze and a time for quick shots. Knowing how to do them quick is a handy thing to practice, but the best way is to hold and squeeze it off.
Never argue with trying something, it may come in handy sometime.

rocking the sights on and then holding for the trigger break is a method many offhand shooters use if thats what your gpa is teaching you thats great, but "fly by shooting" isnt so swell. Trigger control is the whole key, if you can train yourself to make a smooth break on the trigger without rushing or speeding up your squeeze, then you are on the right track. Read "Successful Shooting" by Hannenkrat and Pullum, the NRA has it for about $10. David Tubb has a couple of good books on technique too. I see them advertised in gun magazines. If you can find a copy of Towndsend Whelen's book "The Hunting Rifle" there is a good chapter on marksmanship in it too. The fundamentals are not very complicated, and beyond that, your abilities will coincide with the amount of practice you do. Provided you dont develop any number of bad habits that plague all shooters. Its a fun game and one you never master.

Sounds like your snap shooting .A lot of people do that on close shots in heavy cover but its not the best for long range shooting.I had a friend that was very good that way ,but shooting is what he did for a living . The one thing to remember is don't jerk the trigger .good luck.
