Steel shot through a Mossberg
My brother has an older model 500 Mossberg 12ga with adjustable choke. Can steel shot be used in this gun. I was led to believe that you couldn't......
Any help settling this arguement would be appreciated!

Depends on the age. Go to Mossberg's web site, and get an e-mail address so you can give them a serial #, and ask them.
Some experts here may know just by date of manufacture, if you know that.

Thanks Uncle! I called Mossberg before I posted and they're closed. I'll have to wait until tom.
I know the gun is over ten years old, probably closer to 20....... I'll buzz him for the seriel number and post it in case someone here might know.

RE: Steel shot through a Mossberg
I got a reply from Mossberg and they do not "recommend" that steel shot be used. The gun has a C-select choke, is a 500A series, model J529677.
I asked about opening up the choke and they said it might cause barrel damage and or choke damage. What do you all think?
