Look on the end of the box and read it.[8D]
Or you could look on the scope itself and read that. It is writen on the scope at the objective (big) lense.
The 2004 model is a VX-___ and the earlier models were VariX-___

Hi,
I interested in buying a used VXII scope in
either 3x9x40/50 or
4x12x40AO.
If I'm following the development right:
First came the the VXII with multi coated
exterior lens & an upper 80% light
transmission rate.
Ans: Correct.
Then came the VXII redo- with fully multi-coated
lens (int. & ext) and a
mid 90's light trans mission rate.
Ans: Correct.
How do you tell the difference in an auction
listing and pictures?
Ans: The way to tell if its a 2004 VX-II scope is
by the serial number.
The suffix letter is an "M" (i.e. 1234567M). The
part numbers have
changed for 2004. The part numbers now start with
either a 56XXX or a
57XXX.

That's not entirely true bigbulls. the VX models have been out for a couple of years now. The 2004 models have been improved over the 03 through the full multi-coating on the lenses.
