I have been gun hunting deer for a lot of years with a shotgun with slugs, last few years with a 870 with winchester supreme sabot slugs. My area has opened up to rifle and Im
in the market for one.I have been looking at a winchester model 70 syn in 300 wsm .
This rifle will be the only rifle I will own and it will be used for deer and elk someday.
Would this be a good all around rifle and what kind of recoil does this caliber have?
THANKS

The 300wsm would be a very good choice for an all around cartridge. The recoil will depend a lot on the weight of the gun and since many rifles chambered for this cartridge are quite light recoil can be more than expected(or than advertised by browning or winchester).A lightweight 300wsm can easily produce more recoil than a heavier 300win mag.

I bought a Browning Medallion in 300 WSM last summer. The rifle shoots very well and the recoil isn't severe. Recoil will depend largely on rifle weight as Stubblejumper posted. The Mdl 70 will likely be somewhat heavier than my A-bolt so recoil should be less. If you have been shooting a 12 gauge with slugs, the recoil of a 300 WSM shouldn't feel any worse. IMO it is a great caliber for deer and elk and other similar sized game.

well i am only 16 but i have a winchester model 70 300 wsm and the recoil is not as bad as my dads 7mm mag.the gun comes whit a vary soft pad in the back that takes most of it in.and yes the gun has a good range and lots of power.the only think i think you will have to get is a beter scope and that is about it.
